Men trading nudes on reddit

Just read this really disturbing article about men trading nude images on reddit and then groups trying to doxx the women in the images.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-62564028

In the article it says there are a group of men who are "collectors" of these images 🤮

I also hadn't realised that "revenge porn" is only a crime if the man intended to cause alarm or distress. I mean, wtf? It's a bit like the "reasonable belief in consent " defence in rape. The man's intention is more important than the impact on the victim.

The way the Internet is being used against women is so depressing.

This is why I refused point blank to take any photos like this my entire life.

It's very normalised now though. There is another thread at the moment about nudes being the thing to do.

Also some of these pictures were not nudes, just women in bikinis etc on their Instagram. The men copy and share them then the commenters try to doxx them. Gross.

ref - Revenge Porn, part of that offence is the 'revenge' aspect - so you have to show it was sent to cause harassment, alarm or distress

There are a whole host of other offences which can be considered for sending such photos without the person's consent.

So if you send a picture to a man and he trades it on reddit for fun, is it a crime if he cans say he didn't intend to cause distress?

It seems odd to me that you need to prove an intent to cause distress. Why can't it just be a crime to share the photos without consent?

There offences under stalking, harassment. Also malicious communication offences.

Unfortunately after been married for 7 years you'd think you would love/ trust a person . We got divorced and I know he still has videos of us that he basically bullied me into doing. I hate myself for it. I just hate men. I gave my whole life for him to become a stranger with my nudes. Gross. I would never do that to a person.

It's not just reddit and it's not just nudes. On reddit, discord, and other similar sites/apps, that are local, or even worse, university-specific groups created solely for the purpose of collecting and trading nudes of women.

You can also find subreddits or discord servers dedicated to creep shots of local women in bikinis on the beach or even women just going about their daily lives, usually accompanied by comments asking if anyone knows of the woman's instagram or if anyone has any nudes of her.

It's disgusting but it's absolutely rampant and what scares me is how many young men I know think this sort of behaviour is acceptable (particularly in the second case) because, to quote them, 'women love objectifying themselves anyway'.

The whole thing makes me want to vomit.

Panorama didn't cover the half of it. I do understand that honour is a big deal in SE Asian culture but it affects all girls and there isn't enough emphasis put out for girls to avoid it. Another normalisation.
