Men Videoing Women at Beach

What is a good response to men who photograph and video female strangers at the beach?
In Europe it's illegal to hold an image of another person without their consent. The issue l see is that these pervs might enjoy being told of by a female in a swimming costume. Also it's not always safe for women to engage in arguements with random men.

This is the UK. Probably the best way to ensure nothing ever changes is to point out that Europe does it.

Also I doubt that it's quite that simple ....

That can't be right - if I take a photo or video of my children on the beach and there happens to be a stranger in the back ground - have I committed an offence?

When this happened on the beach in Mexico DH did some dancing in front of the camera. Repeatedly. Whilst saying, I'll give you something to look at! watch me! etc. When it happened in the local park I stood in front of the perv holding a coat in front of his lens, about 1 m from him, until he left.

It's not illegal in the UK unless someone is repeatedly taking pictures of the same person when it might constitute harassment or stalking. The other exception is if the photos are indecent.

"Europe" is not a country, the law will potentially be different in each European country. I'd find out the local laws first before taking any action. Of course, just as people can take photos, other people can get in the way of photos and let people know they're being photographed. If you're concerned about women being photographed by perving men, I'd probably make a loud verbal response to them asking them what they're doing and why, and get in their way. Trickier if you are in a foreign country and don't know the language of course.

Are you sure?

My understanding is there is no law against taking a photo of someone without consent in the UK, it all depends on context (eg if there was intent to harass or in a case of voyeurism etc)
