Specifically on banning soldiers from buying sex while overseas. Comments are maybe even more depressing than JT's article:

"she's the one ending up in the cells"

Then advocate for complete decriminalisation? It's the only law model where sexworkers aren't criminalised for working together, get evicted for renting property or have their children taken off them because of their work.

Yeah, let's not think about teaching boys and men that women's bodies are more than just various orifices and sperm spittoons hey.

It's already normalised, let's just make it legal and a fun jolly free for all.

I don't think sexworkers should be criminalised for working together, risk eviction or lose custody of their children for selling sex. Do you?

I also don't think women should be barred from entering an establishment because the bouncers think "they might be a prostitute" by their ethnicity/how they look. This happened in Nordic Model Sweden. The Asian woman (who weren't sexworkers) took the pub to court. The judge sided with the pub.

Criminalisation creates stigma, discrimination and disadvantages sexworkers in various ways.

You didn't answer my question there.

Why is it okay to normalise prostitution and the commodification of women's bodies. Rather than normalise men treating women as mere orifices?

The scenario you described unfortunately happens anywhere that prostitution is normalised. Women anx girls near Leeds controlled zone talk about being propositioned in the street. Sex trafficking is common in Germany and other countries where prostitution is legalised.

This utopia you dream of creates the problems sex workers and non sex workers face.

"The scenario you described unfortunately happens anywhere that prostitution is normalised"

I doubt in decriminalisation (which is different from legalisation btw) New Zealand a pub would get away with telling a woman "you can't come in because you look like a prostitute" like what happened in Sweden. This is the sort of thing you get when you create criminalisation or "prohibition" laws- stigma rockets and pubs/establishments start to judge who might be a sexworker based entirely on looks (which doesn't work when you take into account real life isn't the movies and sexworkers often dress more discreetly than you might believe). It creates problems for all women and does nothing to stop sexwork happening.

In Dec 2020 a NZ sexworker received a 6 figure payout for sexual harassment. i wonder if a Swedish sexworker who was sexually harassed would also receive the same compensation, or if the Swedish authorities would be more interested in sending Social Workers to her home to see if she is fit to be a parent?
