Yet another woman murdered by a random man. Sad and angry. How dare they remove our right to safe places of refuge. We have to show our sorrow and fury at what men do to us.

OP posts:

just awful. but all these words and zero changes .

CheshireMum12 · 28/06/2022 16:20

Very sad. Alas very little coverage about this in the news or in the papers compared to similar cases in the last few years. I wonder why?

RogersOrganismicProcess · 28/06/2022 16:45

I also find the lack of coverage alarming. May she rest in peace.

Yodaisawally · 28/06/2022 17:04

I commented on another thread. Zara want white. No outcry like Sarah Everard, or are we all just immune to it now, it's normal and we accept it?

Wasn't

carrotsnotsticks · 28/06/2022 17:09

I thought the same thing. re coverage I haven't seen a photo of her but guessing from her name she is probably not white.
So doubly horrendous

anystropheus · 28/06/2022 18:13

My heart goes out to Zara Aleena's family and loved ones.

She was just walking home.

She was the 16th woman murdered in London in the first 26 weeks of the year.

Say her name: Zara Aleena.

Thelnebriati · 30/06/2022 12:17

There is a vigil for her on Sunday;

''People are asked to meet at 1.30pm; the walk will begin at 2.17pm...The walk will start opposite Cranbrook Rise on Cranbrook Road, with attendees asked to wear white.''

I’m rather offended by the phrase by the OP “what men do to us”. As if all men are evil like the offender in this tragic case.
How will you show fury? Ban men from going out?
There’s sadly a number of “random” men who carry out horrific murders. But how can you
realistically stop them?

ilovesushi · 02/07/2022 12:40

I think the lack of coverage is because they picked up the killer relatively quickly. But how desperately sad. Another young woman violently murdered.

Shut up Dave.

Shut up Dave.

You sound nice. I’m not entitled to my opinion?

I was merely asking the question about what can realistically be done about random men who suddenly commit these horrific acts. The realistic answer is , if he wasn’t known to the police for anything serious, probably not a lot.

nomistake · 02/07/2022 13:17

Sorry you're offended Dave. Women get offended by not being able to walk home safely because of random acts of violence from men though, so guess we're even.

I think we all agree murders are quite rare , admittedly one is one too many
though.
Zara had the absolute right to walk on her own, I very much doubt potential danger would have ever crossed her mind.
My question is that no one answers is what can b edible to stop random acts of violence/ murder against women and I’ve not heard anything to suggest we can.

nomistake · 02/07/2022 14:21

Murder of women by men isn't particularly rare. Random might be, but 2 women per week are killed by men, probably more that get away with it.

The answer lies with men and how they change their attitudes towards women. It's not up to women how to tell men how to stop beating/raping/murdering, or catcalling, watching gruesome porn and all the other shit that contributes to the dehumanisation of women in society.

123ZYX · 02/07/2022 14:36

I'm absolutely sure it would have crossed her mind, because it does for most women who are out alone at night.

That is part of the problem - not just the direct violence against women, but the culture of fear that it causes so that women feel the need to change their activities to reduce their risk

maltravers · 03/07/2022 23:50

“I very much doubt potential danger would have ever crossed her mind.” God, there speaks a man. No idea.

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/07/2022 00:00

Well Dave, I have been harassed, stalked, sexually assaulted, catcalled, threatened and followed countless times in public, Countless. From 11 years old. In public. You know how many times a man has stepped in to help me? Twice. I've heard rape jokes, blonde jokes, I've heard that I'm a humourless lesbian for not laughing at those. All with men around.

How's about you fucking help once in a while? You could use some of the time you spend being butt-hurt on MN to try to end violence against women. Volunteer, raise money, donate, don't laugh at sexist jokes, check in on women who look scared or worried about a man's behaviour in public, challenge sexism and objectification, don't use sex workers or porn, support equal pay in your workplace, speak in private with your mates as if your granny was listening. All of that and more. Rather than telling women off because your feelings got hurt on a thread about a women's murder. There are many things you could do.
