Link here

I am so relived to see such a prominent writer speaking out and she has some really good points, especially about no state religion. Regardless of your personal views on this issue, it is good to see this aired and getting coverage rather than women being shut down on an issue of such significance to them.

I read that with some hope. But, I retain some misgivings, especially when she says "all women".

Her voice is loud, her reputation still strong, hopefully she and the other distinguished authors will be listened to.

But I also hope she is never asked to say more as her clarification of who is "all women" will undermine her message.

As with others who I disagree with (and I never thought that would include Atwell) on this I welcome her words and her using her platform to say them!

Atwood has repeatedly demonstrated that she's no friend to women or fellow women authors over the last few years.

Hadley Freeman's interview with her was very decent.

Sorry @Darley368 Atwood is one of my favourite authors and always will be but she is no friend of women.

It's the whole Sex/vs/Gender debate which I know a lot of women yawn off as it's not important.

But Atwood's definition of 'woman' includes any male that says he's a woman at the age of 20,30,40,50,60,70 without any previous gender dysphoria or any hormonal treatment or reassignment surgery.

So I can't understand how Atwood totes herself as a feminist when she thinks men are entitled to call themselves women and take female prizes and accolade.
