Dr Jessica Taylor using people's data without permission?

Dr JT is being criticised on twitter for having used people's stories in her new book, one spanning 4 pages, without their consent or knowledge. People have read the book and recognised themselves in it. One had had friends recognise her story. 3 people or more have come forward. Bloody shocking if it is true considering she's supposed to be trauma informed!

I filled in some kind of survey for her at some point in the last couple of years.. was it to do with sexual violence?

Reading this has make me feel really cold all of a sudden.. I’d really hate to see come across something I’d written, when I didn’t have any expectation of it being made public. What if it’s something recognisable to people who know me?

It's very disappointing if true - she has some great stuff about victim blaming, though interestingly lately (before this came up) I'd seen abuse survivors criticising her stance that it's 'pathologising' survivors to giuve them MH diagnoses. These women are saying actually they did really need a diagnosis and medication, and that it saved their lives.

I suspect that at least sometimes she is right, but I'm sure there are also other occasions when a MH diagnosis and medication is what survivors need

Hmmm, nothing constructive to add here but oddly, when I looked on Twitter to find out about what was being discussed, I had apparently muted JT at some point in the past. Not aware that I'd eve been aware of her...

PS Mumsnet why don't we have a shrug emoji??

@PegasusReturns

Please don’t malign and gaslight women who have recognised their own stories.

The women whose stories have been reproduced without consent are capable of recognising this fact. JT has behaved abysmally. She deserves to be called out and held to account for an appalling breach of trust.

The more I read about it the more I realise that JT has abused these women and used their stories for her own personal gain. It's very clear by some of the tweets that this is has genuinely happened and women have been harmed in the process. Awful. Expected better from someone who has spoken so vocally about consent.

I don't think it's clear at all, and that is some very harsh words based on some tweets.

Having read both sides I would certainly not be rushing to condemn JT without significantly more evidence than has been presented. Just because someone thinks they recognise their story doesn't mean it is their story.

For those posters worried the open survey is the source of the concerns about breaking confidentiality - from what I have seen (twitter only) that is not the basis of the complaints so I hope that is in some way reassuring.

Hmmm indeed. Similarly, I find that I have her blocked. Can't remember what for though.

🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ Just insert it via your usual route for other docs? On a Mac it's the Edit menu, Emojis and Symbols at the bottom of the list.
