Unison voting on ditching the Nordic Model

Unison, the second biggest UK union, is due to vote at its national conference in June on a motion to abandon its 12-year policy of supporting the Nordic Model approach to the sex trade and to switch support to full decriminalisation – which would decriminalise pimps, brothel keepers, and sex buyers as well as those involved in prostitution.

I'm nor pro nor against. I simply don't put people in groups and tend to judge on merit and individual circumstances rather that hyperbole and gossip.

In many debates, particularly ones regarding sexwork and sexworkers, a lot of speculation tends to fly around.

I prefer to provide sources (preferably trying to avoid the media) as much as I can to backup what I say.

My personal view is the decriminalisation "model" is in the in the best interest (for health+safety, control over their work and choices, and not being criminalised) of women in the sex industry. Currently NZ, parts of Australia and Belgium (as of this year) have decrim. It has a lot of strong support from local and international human rights orgs, health orgs, anti-trafficking orgs, orgs made up of women who sell sex etc

Other options include outright criminalisation, partial criminalisation such as the Nordic Model, and legalisation.
