PSHE teaching women and trans men give birth….

DD in Yr 10 came home yesterday and mentioned in the PSHE lesson, the teacher was continually mentioning ‘women and trans men who give birth….’ I have asked the school for the lesson plan and asked how is this relevant. Would you be concerned? Is it safe for a woman on testosterone to have a baby?

I guess I don't see the relevance of teaching young teenagers that trans men can give birth....they already know that women can give birth (and women includes trans men) so introducing any discussion about trans men is pushing an ideology that many teenagers will find incredibly complicated to navigate. A woman is a woman no matter how they chose to identify....women transitioning is incredibly harmful for them-it's not something responsible adults should be casually dropping into lessons without talking about all the risks involved and harms of taking T, removing your breasts etc etc.

@KleineDracheKokosnuss

Transmen are a type of woman. They prefer not to be described as women, so should be separated out in descriptions. The teacher is using terms respectful to both trans individuals and to women. Sounds fine.
The teacher is explaining birth. These are hypothetical people whose sex is the one who carries and gives birth to babies.

I would print off this paper OP and send her in with it to use to challenge language where appropriate.

So called inclusive language is not a neutral act and can be actively harmful.

But the way the little red guards are these days - don’t mention the T word and the teachers will be reported for wrong think.

And ironically it only works because people like us do the dirty work of explaining about reality and sex. So a those who preach about inclusive language are actively cashing in on an opportunity they only jave because of us.

The binary is needed in order to be able to define yourself against it. Its totally dishonest amd has no place in the classroom.

Just make sure that your children know only women given birth. My teens would just roll their eyes at this shit, thankfully.
No idea if it’s safe for a woman taking testosterone to have a baby. It’s so fucking ironic they deny they are a woman yet would be pregnant. Madness. And to call themselves a trans man, a woman doesn’t have to be taking testosterone anyway....just say they’re a bloke. 🙄 And they seem to cut their hair short and wear ‘boy’ clothes, not that it’s all rooted in stereotypes of course.

I agree with you OP, it's unnecessary to repeat the concept of 'trans' in a lesson about female reproduction. One or two mentions fine, especially if pointing the issues for trans men who undergo surgery or hormone treatment. And perhaps pointing out the lots of women don't think they want children until well into their thirties or even forties.

Good idea to get the lesson plan, ask them how they teach about gender identity in general.

buydirt completely agree

My teens are well aware of this too, however there are strident voices in their class (peers) who try to silence them Wink
