Thank you, that's very interesting, and not entirely surprising.
I'm a female farmer, there are no boys in this generation of our family,so it is me,my sister and cousin. None of us have ever received any negative reactions locally,as we are a well known farming family. But I have had outsiders comment on how it must be hard work for my husband, they assume that it's his farm, when in reality he has absolutely nothing to do with it. I've been patronised and talked down to online,as it's assumed, always by older men, that I am a middle aged pony patter ( I have my daughter's horses on my FB photo),and not a 'real' farmer. They soon get told though! Land agents, salesmen, vets, anyone on the sharp end has always been absolutely fine. I'm in England though,so not as patriarchal as Ireland.

@TheFnozwhowasmirage The nearby farm to us was for decades predominantly bull beef and family owned and run but over time it started to hemorrhage money and the industry overall just wasn't making it worthwhile getting out of bed.

Farmer's long term partner is a horsey person and suggested turning some of the old stalls and blocks into stables and offering them out as DIY and part livery.

They built two arenas, installed a full secure tack room, brew room and wash bays and extra bays for cars and boxes / trailers etc. It now still has a small number of farming livestock but is predominantly livery with 23 stables I think she has at present.

It's odd how many people - even though they may never have met either of them or stepped foot in the place before - immediately assume the YO's husband / farmer is the one in charge and they always seem to think does the grafting.

I'm sure they just see the horses, arenas and jumps and immediately assume it's all My Little Pony playtime.
