The death of a teenage girl whose body was found in a South Lanarkshire woodland at the weekend is being teated as murder

Yes I saw this earlier.
16 :(
I was horrified that my first thought was oh god another one. I didn't feel the same level of horror, anger, even sadness.
Please don't anyone tell me off.
Recently these incidents seem to be in the news once, twice, three times a week. Often more than one girl/ woman in the same week.
I worry that given people do get accustomed to things in general. If it's in the news a fair bit.
And given realistically nothing is going to change when it comes to the range of MVAWG. then the end result is these incidents just become background normal, if they continue at this rate or increase tbh.
I just don't know if these incidents are being reported more due to Sarah everard or if actually more. I would be really interested to pretty sure that but raw stats don't show enough to say.
So so many murders in such horrific circs.
And it did cross my mind when I read this. And it's totally off topic.
But when the average person reads this news report. I'm sure for most, the likely what sort of person did this and why crosses mind.
Could be wrong obv. But how would think in that moment, if murdered then probably woman did it. Fucking no one is who. Across the population. Maybe a handful out of millions. If that.
Everyone knows who women and girls are at risk from. Everyone knows what s huge problem it is from 'trivial' to just terrible.
How can we really be expected to pretend we don't know this FFS?

Oh. Just googled.
19yo man arrested.
Scrolling Google noticed something that was ???
Headlines saying she was acting like a normal 16yo. Clicked-
"Amber was a 16-year-old girl out at 10 o'clock on a Friday night. There is nothing to suggest that she was doing anything different to any girl of that age."'
Wtf? What is meant by that? What are the police trying to say there?
And also saw headlines she was in council care.
Again. How is that relevant? Why do papers think it's pertinent? What are they getting at?
CheeseMmmm · 02/12/2021 02:17
These things are not relevant at all.
But they leave me uncomfortable.
With sex offences the immediate general reaction is to immediately focus on the victim. What did she do wrong? Is there anything about her that might explain why she was the one who was attacked, something different about her? That explains why he did this to her?
Sometimes v relevant- grooming gangs targeting care leavers, girls with difficult home lives.
Totally.
It's about the situations where men seek out the vulnerable. There's a pattern. Important.
Is there anything in this that says pattern of behaviour? Is her killing similar to others and they haven't released that yet? Indications of a general issue?
Unless they are keeping a lot quiet.
I mean not known yet but sounds like one man grabbed/ lured /maybe met internet or real life and arranged to meet.
And then she's found dead in woods. Sounds like a one off one man surely?
CheeseMmmm · 02/12/2021 02:23
So she was not doing anything different to other girls that age.
What would be not normal?
How would that change things?
Why?
To me it suggests that if she HAD been doing anything ... Unspecified. Then that would be. Different?
I mean what message is that sending?
Living in care.
And?
Does that. Mean something? In context with the other info released so far?
Feels like hinting at something. Subtext. Something about her.
Message?
Given the prevailing societal issues with VAWG.
The reporting really needs to be addressed.

Since she's in care, to me that is a coded way of saying they don't think she was a victim of child sexual exploitation (I.e. being prostituted).
CheeseMmmm · 02/12/2021 20:03
Well yes I mean the various things that could be taken are plenty.
Things like, and not everyone will think the same BUT given the general social attitude to sex offences against women and girls...
She was living in council care.
Bad childhood/ dysfunctional family/ neglected/ not loved... Off the rails/ up to no good / difficult / desperate for love or attention....
I mean. Why write that? What are they implying? If it turns out to be pertinent then sure. At this point? In general for many people reading, and obviously knowing the massive 'what did she do wrong' stuff.
If it becomes relevant then sure. At this point, in bed to reports. It sends many off down s certain line of thought.
Ditto was not doing anything any other 16yo wouldn't do.
Eh? And?
Has there been any suggestion she was? I haven't seen any. And in the end she's dead so whatever she (wasn't doing) means sod all. What sort of things do they mean? It's left to the imagination of the reader. Why are they saying that and so early on? It is unlikely to have crossed many people's minds that she might have been... Doing something unspecified. Mentioning it means... They thought she might have been? Or what?
Given the standard reaction to these crimes. Saying these things adds nothing. Except semi / sub consciouly bringing those sort of thoughts to mind.
It's shit.

I see what you mean. Yes, it's shit. They're basically trying to say "Look, it's okay to be horrified and feel sorry for her because even though she was in care she wasn't a whore who deserved what happened to her." I think a lot of the public have moved on from that, especially for girls after Rotherham, but there's still an undercurrent of thinking the more "innocent" the victim is, the more of a tragedy it is.

The message her brother posted on instagram says a lot to me. "...We will all miss you. Especially me. I love you ginger midget..."
The possessiveness of especially me, centring himself. And the cruel taunts cased as loving nicknames at the end, these stand out.
Poor girl.
CheeseMmmm · 04/12/2021 21:26
In news
'A spokeswoman for the PIRC said: “We are investigating the circumstances leading up to the death of a 16 year-old girl in Hamilton.
“Our investigation will focus on the police actions during efforts to trace the girl.'
Investigation into police response happens WAY too often with sex offences/ VAWG.
over and over and over.
It's so depressing. When will this not be a common factor in crimes against women and girls from flashing, to DV (too often police ignore/ minimise multiple reports about man threatening etc and he goes on to kill). To missing girls/ women poor response. And so on.
