Vaccines and periods. This article has made me fume

I had period problems following bother doses of AZ vaccine. Specifically I missed a period both times and the following one showed up late and was generally weird. My cycle is incredibly regular and this is the first time my period was irregular since I had my youngest 15 years ago. It's back to normal now (I'm front line and had first dose in Jan).

I'm just livid at that article. I went to my GP when my second one didn't appear, he never asked about the vaccine and I didn't mention it. I didn't connect it to the vaccine until I came across and article about period changes due to vaccine and realised the dates matched. The NHS website advises not to seek advice regarded missed periods until there are 3 missed in a row. Which begs the question how the fuck can they be so sure the numbers are low whe nobody appears to be asking women about this.

It's clear to me that this question mustn't have been asked during the trials. Who cares, its just women stuff?

My favourite part of the article is the bit where they admit nobody knows why vaccines fuck with periods and there has been hardly any research yet they are sure it doesn't effect fertility. It doesn't bother explaining how they are so certain about this.

I am not an anti vaxxer. I have had all jabs as have my kids. I would have had the jab if I had known it caused menstrual changes. It just makes me extremely distrustful of the competence of medical science when it comes to women. I don't think there is a conspiracy I just don't think they particularly care.

And it's women who are about to be sacked for not having the vaccine. It's fine to sack women who don't want it but heaven forbid anybody should actually do any research on the effect of vaccines on women.

They definitely don’t care. I missed three periods in a row after my first dose of AZ and then after my second my period literally came on that day, despite it having only been around 10 days since my last period (which, incidentally, was the first one after the first dose). I’ve literally never had a late period if not pregnant in the 24 years I’ve been having them. I brought it up with my (male) GP after missed period 2 and he asked if I wanted anymore children (I don’t) and said “well, it’s fine then. Doesn’t matter” 😬 I complained to the practice manager about that but as if any of them give a shit. Women’s troubles, innit.

That stood out to me too. How can you be so adamant it doesn't affect anything whilst admitting that you haven't studied the link.

You can get any money if men suffered erectile dysfunction after the jab they'd have done the research months ago. It would not he trivialised the same way.

Also seems strange how when the news of the blood clots came out wonen were told its less risky than the pill or a holiday. Myocarditis that affects men/boys on the other hand...well that's worth considering Hmm

Have you reported it on the yellow card system ?

I agree wholeheartedly. It’s absurd and depressing.

Interesting despite quite a few women having the same experience as us (missed periods) most articles I have read talk about late, heavy and early periods. I thought initially maybe missed periods were extremely rare but now I wonder if it is deliberate under reporting. After all if we didn't have a period we didn't ovulate then it is much harder to say it certainly doesn't effect fertility. "Doesn't effect fertility long term" doesn't have the same ring to it and silly women may panic.

As a PP has also suggested, Make sure you report to the yellow card thingy, they like to track if this has happened to my people.

I started a thread about this just yesterday (in the covid topic). It is maddening because I’ve also had regular periods all my life and now I’m TTC and my cycle is all over the place. Currently on day 35 of my current cycle but all pregnancy tests have been negative, so doubtless it’s not happened this month but I’m still waiting for my period…so frustrating. It would be annoying even if I weren’t TTC but it’s an extra added misery atm.

For info, I had my second dose of Pfizer in May, and that’s when all this started. I was fine after the first dose.

That really is very shocking. I had been having irregular periods for a year (aged 50 so not unexpected)
After the vaccine I didn't have one for 7 months and then two at 28 days. I put it down the menopause, and it doesn't concern me, but it's interesting.
My son and his partner live abroad, and are adamantly waiting for research about fertility before they get vaccinated, and quite honestly I don't blame them.

If you Google yellow card system you can report your findings, and perhaps help to prove there is a link or not.

I just posted on another thread about this.
The Daily Mail posted an article yesterday about this, unfortunately they seem to have now changed the article today downplaying the problem and have removed a few thousand comments made by females that had experienced the same problems with their cycles after having had the injections.

GoodnightGrandma · 17/09/2021 07:50

I also had a 19 day period after my second jab, but I’m peri menopausal and I’ve recently had an 18 day cycle, so I know it’s not the vaccine.

RE The yellow card reporting system. How do so many people not know anything about it? I was told that everyone should be told about it when going for their injections.

I'm a vaccinator. After we administer a dose we give each patient an information leaflet away with them that has the details of the yellow card reporting scheme.

This is being looked into and the more people that report it the more data they have

I had my first in Jan and second 12 weeks after. 100% I wasn't told about it.

I still have mine and its not on it. I'll take a pic later. I know it isn't because I read it back to back when I came down with a fever I couldn't bring down afterwards. It could have been on my second one but I didn't read it because I had read the first.

The information about reporting side effects was given to me.
Birdyflight the advice for menopausal women is to get a GP check if you have a period after not having had one for several months. It might be because of the vaccine but generally once periods stop, they don't start again.

I think it's worse that they want us to give this vaccine to our 15-15yr old daughters without this research being done. If they haven't investigated these side effects how do we know whether they are longer term or what the vaccine might do to fertility of young girls.
I do remember when the vaccine first came out these sort of effects were briefly mentioned but then just seemed to be brushed under the carpet.

I too am surprised more people don't know about the yellow card scheme. But if so many don't know then maybe side effects are under reported?

I remember it was quoted that only 1% of people report side effects on the yellow card system. Don’t know what % it’s thought to be now.

Even still, I don’t understand why the things that have been reported aren’t being looked into properly. It just feels like they are saying report it but on the other hand don’t bother because we aren’t going to take you seriously and actually investigate.
Report

Takingabreakagain · 17/09/2021 08:47

Wow that is a tiny percentage I didn't realise it was so low. The amount of under reported side effects must be huge - even if they are minor ones like arm pain or tiredness.
It does seem like side effects are just a nuisance to the authorities. They want people to have the vaccine but aren't prepared to investigate when there's issues. It's even more worrying that the manufacturers have legal indemnity from being sued by patients if there are complications.

Just wanted to clarify this to prevent panic. A period up to 12 months after your "last period " is not considered unusual. Obviously if it is unusual in other ways it is worth seeking advice . Other than that investigation would only be done usually if there was bleeding 12 months or more after previous bleeding

You might at your centre, but many do not. Between five of us we went to three separate centres, none of us have had an information leaflet. The only paper we had in hand was the consent form, and that was taken off us as we were given our cards upon leaving.
