I think record and amplify their voices. And listen to them. It sounds so small but persecuted groups have survived by not letting records of what happens to them and who they are be destroyed (think of the jews, for instance).
Here is an Afgan woman talking right now:

I was just reading a story of an Afghan man who has British citizenship as do his two daughters.
He claimed asylum here years ago and went back to Afghanistan when it looked calmer, working on US bases.
He is terrified but won't leave as his wife cannot be granted citizenship.
He said he won't leave her to die alone, he would rather be with her whatever happens.
This man seems pretty clear that the Taliban will be visiting them soon.
I cannot comprehend the terror in this, those poor, poor people.
I am following for ideas of how to help.

@bloatedandfedup
I heard on radio 4 last week that the majority of refugees entering Pakistan at that time were women and children.

Change.org have got an online petition for people to sign to ask the Govt to get members of the British Council out of Afghanistan. The BC are an organisation which promotes British values such as democracy and education of women. They are prime targets of the Taliban.
Opalfeet · 16/08/2021 23:06
@bloatedandfedup it often seems to be the case. They don't seem to give a crap about women's education anymore than the taliban...the men at the airports etc up that ism. Theres a few men and women together, not many. I'm like where are these men daughters, mother's and girlfriends/ wives.
Byheckythump · 16/08/2021 23:14
I cannot imagine how terrifying it must be for all but I heard it said even on the news that the ones to suffer most will be the women. Yet the ones clamouring at the airport are the men. I don't know at the moment how any charities will be able to attend so may wait for some more updates.

Sorry to recycle this post, but one thing that we can do to help, is to contact our MPs before Parliament goes back tomorrow (and to keep it up after today also).
I will write to my MP to ask them to ask the British Government to do all it can to support Afghan women and children specifically.
BBC is reporting that a UK government scheme will be outlined that will be similar to the one for Syrian nationals. //www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-58238490
If anyone has suggestions to make for wording an email that would be helpful. For starters:
Metro newspaper offers a link to template letters and talking points and names relevant charities in need of support:
metro.co.uk/2021/08/16/afghanistan-what-can-we-do-to-help-from-donating-to-raising-awareness-15097412/
Marie Claire magazine offers a link to a template letter for MPs and a list of charities to support:
//www.marieclaire.co.uk/reports/afghanistan-conflict-how-to-help-745850
Contact details for MPs are here: members.parliament.uk/FindYourMP
Those of us lucky enough to be living in the UK can at least let our MPs know that we, and our friends and families, are all urging the UK government on to help civilians in Afghanistan on our behalf. The more people that contact with our MPs today over this issue, hopefully the more productive this recall of Parliament tomorrow morning will be.
