Report about Sherwood Forest.

In recent weeks there has been growing concern about nudists and one report of a man hiding in the bushes and exposing himself to a lone female cyclist last month

The woman’s husband said online that he believed the incident was linked to nudists walking around the forest in groups of up to 12.

Mick Allen, Nottinghamshire county council’s communities manager, said: “Naturism in appropriate circumstances is legal, and we are not therefore in a position to ban naturists from Sherwood Forest.

Speaking as someone who walks alone a lot, I use Natural Parks and Woodlands on holidays and I certainly wouldn't be happy to encounter naked men wandering about singly or in groups. Most of the comments are jokey or saying there's nothing wrong with the human body.

Ok so if nudism is a new human right why not everywhere. Why shouldn't nudists have an absolute right to be naked wherever they choose, a Dad picking his child up from school, going to the supermarket, visiting a stately home?

I'm irritated that it's being treated in a jokey manner when we know the links between flashing and escalating sexual violence. I notice it's not groups of women wandering about.
The husband mention above has started a petition on Change uk.

@MorriseysGladioli

This isn't naturalism, it's exhibitionism. I'm all for people getting their kit off wherever, and with whomever they want to, bit it must be ensured that it stays away from others.
I agree. I don't buy the "oh, they must have wandered outside of the area" excuse at all.

No thank you.

Public nudity isn't a human right and I don't want to see unexpected knobs when I go for a walk

TinyTroubleMaker · 13/08/2021 15:11

Surely this is flashing. Why aren't the police responding?

newnortherner111 · 14/08/2021 07:31

My view is that it should be framed in terms of designated places only. Not a vague law that depends on how loudly someone complains, not a law that means someone can unexpectedly come across a person who is nude in somewhere where almost universally is clothed.

A forest in a National Park would not be one such designated place if it were my choice. A few beaches, saunas in places not viewed by others, perhaps a once a week swimming session if the building is not viewable from the street.

No.

Just before Corinthians we had posters put up on a local walk staying that there would be naked groups enjoying the countryside and there was no point reporting to the police. This was in an area used regularly by line female dog walkers and families.

I ripped the posters down an binned them, and if I'd encountered any of the stupid exhibitionists I'd probably have made a comment about how embarrassing for them displaying such miniscule wares. Should never be allowed in areas that others are made to feel vulnerable or uncomfortsble.

Isn't this the consequence of society bowing down to the loudest voices, no matter how small the minority?

Muddydoor · 14/08/2021 08:29

Its a shame. I’ve never been to Sherwood forest and now essentially the authorities have told me I am never welcome there.

I was in a local, very small wood during the heatwave in July. I was tidying up after a preschool session in the local woods when a man walked in the path. He was just far enough that I thought he might be naked but couldn't tell for sure. I walked closer and he was indeed naked and further up the path he stood and put his shorts on. I wish I'd run over when I first suspected and taken a photo and taken it to the police. About ten minutes earlier I'd said goodbye to a dozen preschoolers and their adults. Sickening that men think it's okay to wander naked and force people to see them.

Nudity in London today

www.standard.co.uk/news/london/world-naked-bike-ride-202-victoria-park-hundreds-nude-cycling-protest-b950687.html

We drove past a posse of naked cyclists in south London today - nowhere near Victoria Park, but I assume (hope?) it was something to do with the event

newnortherner111 · 15/08/2021 10:43

@SquirmOfEels whilst I think it is an event that has lost its purpose, at least you can be warned about it. A few years ago whilst walking back to the tube I was going along the route where it was to pass later that afternoon, and there were a large number of photographers on the only raised part of the ground, seemingly all male. I'd hazard a guess they were after photos of naked or topless women.

Yes there should be designated spaces where I can bare my post menopausal old lady body when ever I want to.
Yes stop this worship of youth. Go naked.
