Censored for stating facts - guardian olympics blog

I’m so angry and feeling like the world has gone mad.

The guardian olympics liveblog has commented about the women’s 200m being amazing and that Christine Mboma and Beatrice Masilingi ran great races. Plus adding an article from Seb Coe saying that this proves the new rules are working.

I tried commenting underneath but all my comments are being deleted despite stating facts and saying nothing abusive. All I said was that these athletes have xy chromosomes and that these levels of testosterone would result in women being banned for doping. Perhaps saying that it’s not a fair playing field and medals have been snatched from female athletes who’ve trained all their lives caused me to get deleted 🤷‍♀️

It feels like we’ve entered the black mirrorverse and a really bad joke.

It's the fucking Guardian.
Expect nothing else.
I don't read it anymore.

I see Masilingi and Seyni qualified for the 200m World Athletics final ahead of two of the currently best sprinters in the world. No Christine Mboma (injured) so perhaps there will be no clean sweep of medals for males this time.

I am infuriated by the failure of the BBC coverage to make it clear that these are males. Not females with an unfortunate condition, males who have gone through puberty. And none of them would be anywhere near the World Championships if they raced in the correct sex category. The commentators and pundits could explain that the rules allow them to race in these events, but it's outrageous not to explain that they are not women!

I believe anything other than unreserved adoration is considered a hate crime

I would love to hear Seb Coe's take on this - these people are biologically male, unfortunate in the fact that they may have been incorrectly assigned female at birth and for at least part of their lives, believed that to be true. It is completely separate to the the debate on transwomen in sport and was thrashed out in the court of arbitration for sport where having clearly stated that people with DSD should not be allowed to compete in certain events - what was illogical is that the ruling did not apply to all events.

Ignore my comment - I read the article - he is defending the position relating to the 400m and suggesting that it raises questions for the 200m strongly implying that the rules should apply in the other distances as well.

Oh Jeez I saw this too. It just makes a mockery of women’s sport.

i feel so much for the poor female athletes that are losing medals over this. The unfairness is just enraging

Agreed. I believe it started with CAIS women failing the cheek swab sex testing of the '90s and some people feeling it was unfair to exclude them from the female category. (I don't agree personally, as I think they still have unfair sex-related advantages in sport, such as male pelvises, q-angle and no periods, even if they haven't gone through male puberty.) But this not unreasonable exception was extended to include PAIS athletes and other male athletes with male DSDs (not regarded as proper men 🙄) and then somehow the cheek swab test was abandoned and the test got to be about current testosterone levels instead of, you know, was the athlete male or female.
GB sprinter Beth Dobbin has already lost out on a semifinal place.

I wish he would get on and do something about it. Like, right now!

Update: I was wrong about the stage of the competition we were at. Masilingi and Seyni qualified for the semifinal, not the final. In the semis, Masilingi was in Dina Asher-Smith and Elaine Thompson's race but pulled up with an injury at about 120-150 metres in. Seyni was in another sf and qualified by putting on a spurt towards the end, coming in second and depriving another woman of her automatic place in the final. And of course, still no mention of the fact that these are males.

the BBC commentary team is packed with strong female former athletes. It will be very sad if none of them comment. They are happy to comment on athletes physical and mental health and how it affects performance , I think they should be prepared to comment on gender affecting performance as well.

It's absolutely insane the the IOC think that testosterone isn't important in 100m and 200m races - where athletes need explosive power.

Beth Dobbin would have gone through to the semis the other day if Seyni hadn't been in her race.

There needs to be strong new rules around DSD athletes. It's just not fair for women. And these athletes have known for years that they're not women.
