I can’t believe that this is legal in the UK.

Poor girls. This only happen to biological girls. All that “cis privilege” doesn’t seem to help even in the UK.

The fact that it's legal in the UK to perform surgery to 'repair' a broken hymen is a real shock.

Misogyny misogyny misogyny.

I also thought that the hymen doesn't work anything like it's imagined to from religion general society etc.

This is horrific and yes the GMC is the right body to report it to.

JFC.

I didn't bleed when I lost my virginity so presumably my hymen tore at some point beforehand (I used to run as a teen and this can tear it). What would have happened to me?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hymen

The hymen doesn't work like that. At all. I mean what it's supposed to do according to virgin obsessed cultures and religions.

And I mean those who do the tests etc.

If course loads of cultures that don't do this sort of testing, still have loads of men who have these sorts of ideas about women. And also plenty of places that don't do this where girls are subjected to various types of extreme control / mutilation to ensure they don't have sex before marriage.

The paranoia of men going back millennia about paternity has been the root cause of much of our oppression.

Surgery to 'repair' the hymen is legal in the UK.

I can't quite believe that, still.
