As a GC feminist I feel there is pressure to only like like songs, writers who are of the same ilk.

Yet this is very narrow minded and fails to take into account the power of music, history and the all pervading pop culture. So how do you reconcile the two?

I could and do quite happy sing along/dance to and enjoy songs from 1950s onwards - Elvis, R&B, Soul, Motown, Beatles, Stones, Dylan, Hip-hop, Eighties pop, Oasis, Blur, Suede etc.. that I know are misogynistic.

That said Billy Bragg can do one and I don't particularly like artists "just because they are female.

I am a massive Suede fan and I wouldn’t say they are misogynistic, they have a very big female fan base. Other bands born of that era not so much.

I’ve never been tied with any particular group even with my religious beliefs as don’t seem to tick all their boxes or agree with all ridged rules so not sure what kind of pressure you as GC feminist has, only you must be mixing with wrong sort as feminism isn’t about suppressing or controlling other women.

How do you reconcile the two? I duno other than hoping sheep finally wake up and notice the fields of free thinking.

I have my own morals and values so if those are crossed it changes how I hear or see that artist and music and no amount of talent sways that which loyal too.

Chris Brown for example very talented but since what done to Rihanna listening to old music it different.

Same as Tina Tuner after knew more about her life story her music became more powerful

Not sure if I missed the point.

Imo it's just ignorant and lazy to judge someone's oeuvre out of context.

I still listen to music even if I disagree with the artists. As a pp said, if I didn’t I’d be left with nothing. One song I just can’t listen to, though, is P.I.M.P. I like the beat but I just find the lyrics repulsively unpleasant.
