Absolutely appalling approach and tbh I don't feel we are as far on as we think we are from this.

It wasn't actually that long ago.

Another problem with trying to compare conviction rate then and now is (quite rightly) the scope of what is regarded as rape has changed in the time frame so rape within marriage, not being in a fit state to consent and of course the reporting of historical cases so the type of cases be prosecuted now are very different to the "stranger in a dark alley" cases that were the majority of cases back in the 80's. That said that conviction rates area disgrace and improvement should be a top priority for the criminal justice system.

I wonder what the rape conviction rape was 40 years ago? Was it better or worse than today's 1.7%?

I would like to know how rape conviction & rape prosecution rates have changed since 50 Shades of Grey was released. I don't think 50 Shades is single-handedly responsible of course, but it's a useful demarcation point for the mainstreaming of BDSM.

@WarriorN

It must have taken time for changes to happen in other countries?
What do you mean?

And now we've improved so much that we have so-called progressives blaming "white women's tears" for "carceral feminism" if females think males who rape belong in jail.
