Some of you may have seen the tragic death of Samina, a 12 year old girl at secondary school.

It has been alleged that she died by suicide after someone raped her at school.

Last time I saw statistics on this, it seemed that an average of one rape was committed a day in UK schools, and that was some years back.

To judge by the Everyone's Invited initiative, the problem has only got worse.

What can we do about this? School should be safe for our girls.

Heartbreaking, I have two girls and was not aware of the level of sexual crimes in schools. BBC investigation which is shocking

The inquiry by the Women and Equalities Select Committee laid out the devastating extent to which girls experience sexual violence and harassment in schools: 5,500 sexual offences were recorded in UK schools over a three-year period, including 600 rapes.

Can't we do something as mothers (or fathers for the mn men)?

FOI campaign, marches, letter-writing? For starters?

I just can't bear the thought of these children being raped in school. The government inaction is shocking. The stories coming out this year have been too much to take. RIP Semina.

Rape has to be stopped. It is sick that some men and women think sexual abuse is trivial. We need people to take it seriously.

Unsure33 · 10/07/2021 00:07

There are videos up now of her being bullied . It’s awful. I don’t think she was actually raped in school though, but it was by a pupil who took her to a house . I hope that they get justice and that showing the videos won’t prejudice any case . Personally I think the age of criminal responsibility should be lowered.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 10/07/2021 01:06

The age of criminal responsibility is 10 in England and Wales. I think we have the lowest age of criminal responsibility in Europe since Scotland increased theirs to 12 (used to be 8).

So any child at secondary school in E&W, including that boy, will be over it.
