She was brave. She was brave to go to the police, and she was brave to see the case through to the end.
The rapist wasn't brave; he was shameless. These are the rapist's words from his "brave" interview: “I pulled my trousers down to my knee. I pulled her shorts to the side and had sex." He didn't "have sex". He raped her.
"She turned away from him, and he forced himself inside her from behind. She did not consent at any time. She was crying and telling him to stop." How the judge can use the word "brave" about someone who committed this utterly cowardly and disgusting offence is almost incomprehensible.
