I was just following the Jess de Wahls thread. I am fairly sure I picked it up from Feminism Chat this morning. Just noticed that it fell under a new header called "Sex and Gender". So the split has happened. I am not sure I would have noticed though, if I hadn't been following an active thread. Make sure you check out the Sex and Gender forum too.

If only the forum title was the same as the link.

nettie434 - this is the illogical comment that people keep making. If anyone wanted to talk about the issues that you think are important they would get on any do it. What has the fact that other people are talking about other things got to do with no one taking up a particular issue. Do you think everyone on here are sheep and so easily distracted into talking off the top of their heads about issues they dont care about that suddenly there will be loads of comments about a topic they never bothered with before.

And quite honestly the suggestion that because people didn't respond to your thread means they dont care is just insulting. Like you most listen or read the news. Why does it need to be a thread? Unless it is about organising in support or something, its just virtue signalling.

FiLia does loads of that. If you sign up to them on facebook they have lots of posts about women's actions in other countries.

Or if you think it is important that we are seen to be taking notice why not start a thread about women's actions internationally, and then info could be added from different countries.

Except of course if the issue is about women's sex based rights, which means an entry would get deleted and we would end up with the inane separation of the fundamental campaign for feminists.

And the really stupid implication in the name that MNHQ have chosen as if implying we are still "debating". Even if we were before as from 2014 we haven't been. Makes you wonder how anyone who doesn't understand what is being written can then presume to decide on the merits or otherwise of what is just "chat" ie apolitical feminism lite, instead of actual feminism.

@nettie434

No-one except MN wanted this division. It just doesn't make sense.

I am putting my tin hat on to write this but maybe the split will result in a broader coverage of topics that affect women. A few months ago I started a thread about the women protesting in Belarus. Their weekly marches in which they wore white and carried flowers attracted international attention. They played a huge role in increasing awareness of the anti democratic nature of the government outside Belarus.

There was not one comment on the thread. I do understand that some threads attract more interest than others and I am not having a 'loook at meeeee' moment. I just felt very sad that it seemed as if women's protests in another country could not seem to get any attention on Feminism Chat. There are analogies with the Leeds Spinners or women putting stickers and ribbons on statues and trees etc. Or even the 'hate crime' threats against women for protesting but even those similarities didn't help make the topic visible. I hope that the split will lead to more people visiting both boards.

I'm not convinced.
I've started quite a few threads on various feminist issues, often arising from a piece in the Times which I can link to. Quite a few don't attract much discussion because there's not much to discuss - lots of people saying 'thanks, I agree ' or 'shit, that's awful' would be dull.
