And in some cases aborted priests children.

HYPOCRISY.

Those poor subjugated, enslaved women. I've got to say, i'm not one bit surprised.

Not surprised either.

Men. There is no sacred caste.

Note there is no mention as usual of police involvement/criminal action.

Just to clarify, this is still happening now; its not about historical abuse.

Do you say that because this is such a historical article?

No. I say that because people think this is something that used to happen in the dim and distant past, not 2 years ago.
Sexual abuse in the church is an ongoing issue.

Bloody hell! I shouldn’t be surprised at all, and I knew this happened historically but just reading this thread title I had a weird moment of feeling like I’m going to wake up from a bad dream. So much abuse of women in the world. Poor nuns, you would think they could be confident in choosing a life away from men. :(

"He said the Church was attempting to address the problem but said it was "still going on"

Where's the next bit of the sentence? "and so they are fully collaborating with the police in investigating these crimes"!!!!!

Fucking fuming. I hate the church.

It is 2019 article but doubt they have done much.

They just released their report on sexual abuse and it is poor. I read a piece about it the other day I'll try to find it

I think I know the article you mean Gerbil, the one about how the punishment has to be reduced if the child provoked the priest into raping them?

Report

NiceGerbil · 20/06/2021 22:27

Yes

Report

Thelnebriati · 20/06/2021 22:28

Is that the one where they don't use the word 'child'?

Pope Benedict, was forced to shut down an entire congregation of nuns who were being abused by priests.

The congregation of nuns was dissolved, rather than the priests being removed from the priesthood and the women supported? So the women lost their vocation? What were they being punished for - lack of chastity?Hmm

NiceGerbil · 20/06/2021 22:30

Yes

There was a thread on it here the other day maybe

He said that priests and bishops had abused nuns, but said the Church was aware of the "scandal" and was "working on it", adding that a number of clerics had been suspended.

I wonder if the police were involved and any of the men arrested and put on trial for their crimes? Probably not. 🙄

Yes, interesting how it's the nuns who were shut down rather than priests.

That (and the lack of police involvement in criminal investigation) was what stuck out to me.

In Chile, reports of abuse of nuns carried out by priests led the Vatican to launch an investigation last year. The women were reportedly removed from the order after highlighting the abuse.

Yep easy knowing where their priorities lie.

Not sure which country this happened in, but in many places, involving the police would likely lead to further abuse/ possible imprisonment of the women for extra marital sex.

The men in the church arent punished. Police, I dont think, are ever really involved. The priests are just moved to another country.

It will never stop. Ever. They'll just keep moving the priests around, and only suspended them or stopping them of their title if their name becomes public. As long as they keep it from being public, priests face no real punishments. And of course, the nuns are removed from.the church or also moved around to other convents.

It will never stop. Its run by men, for men. Its just boys will be boys.

They need to being in someone like interpol; put together some kind of international policing group whose only mandate is to investigate sexual abuse in the church, with the power to arrest and prosecute in whichever country their investigation takes them, and remove all the power from the church in regards to dealing with the priests themselves. But it'll never ever happen.

Oh but they're "working on it".

Because apparently it's very complicated to stop raping people.

The congregation of nuns shut down was in France.

You're right. These women will never have the justice they deserve. Sad

Raping a nun

Good grief. Some men have no end to their depravity.

Report

NiceGerbil · 20/06/2021 23:15

More than that.

Men who have taken a vow of chastity and are expected to be 'good' etc.

Keeping nuns as sex slaves. Getting them to have abortions.

I also felt info about what happened to the nuns was missing.
