Fasting 24 hours 4 times a week

I am a lifelong intermittent faster before I knew it was a thing - I eat dinner at 7, then lunch after 12, no breakfast. So a big gap between dinner and lunch.I just never liked breakfast, so it seems I was doing the 16:8 thing all along.

I work 4 concurrent days a week, 2 in an office, 2 at home. For weightloss, health and money savings reasons, I want to not each lunch for the four days, so just eating 4 dinners on my working days - Monday to Thursday. And then for the remaking 3 days reverting to lunch and dinner.

Does anyone do this? Does it cause any health issues, I read somewhere it can cause menopausal flushing to worsen. If you do it, do you feel the benefit, have lost weight? I don’t suffer from “food noise” so I think the lack of food won’t bother me.

Sounds good if bit too fatigued on office days through lack of energy?

whatcanthematterbe81 · 06/06/2026 22:24

This seems abit OTT, if you don’t have food noise surely you don’t need to lose so much weight you need to starve yourself. This makes me feel a bit sad

Is it starving myself? I know some people just eat one meal a day? I plan to eat well for the evening meal and the rest of the days.

I have a mid 50s friend who does this. OMAD one meal a day she calls it. She's lost loads of weight and finds it works well.
I guess try and see?

MariaMagdalenaa · 07/06/2026 06:10

I do OMAD during the week and eat 2 meals at weekends. It works well for my
menopausal body. In fact I feel much better eating like this.

Summerhillsquare · 07/06/2026 06:29

Starving yourself is never a good idea, be good to yourself and not embrace punishment.

Maybe look into fasting a bit more before you call it starving yourself.

I don't want to 'look in to it'. The internet is full of health fads and disordered eating. If you consult your GP, a dietician or the NHS you will find it's considered an eating disorder.

Harriet36 · 07/06/2026 06:45

Are you overweight? Do you actually need to get thinner? I’m not a dietitian, I’m a nurse, and this doesn’t sound healthy to me.

It works for many of us. I am a healthy weight, never ill and with plenty of energy. I have eaten like this for 2 decades now and it suits me and my body well 🤷🏻‍♀️

That doesn't mean you don't have disordered eating.

Okay so it works for me, keeps me slim and heakthy, but you decide that my eating is disordered? Okay….

Yes, by about 21 pounds, but I find it so much harder to lose weight post meno. The excess weight is hurting my joints. I also want to save money. I don’t want to get into weighing stuff and being obsessed with calories, this seems an easier way to lose weight, in so much it doesn’t require much headspace.

It's not starving yourself to sometimes only eat OMAD. But that meal should definitely be fairly substantial. I do try and make myself have two meals but sometimes it will be one big one. Of about 1000 cals.

You say you want to lose weight, how much? Do you do exercise?

OlDroopyMouth · 07/06/2026 12:24

Yes, I want to lose 21 pounds, more for health than for vanity. I walk a lot plus do an exercise regime with weights 4 times a week. What I do now would have resulted in weight loss pre meno, now it just won’t shift.
