Hi!
never successfully completed a water fast but I’ve heard such amazing health benefits to it, I’d like to try.

Thanks

There are no health benefits of a water fast, it's high risk. Look at a structured juice diet eg Jason Vale, or similar.
Tips & Tricks, either you want to do it or you don't. if you are committed you will get through it and enjoy it. It's really simple, you can apply this now, if you aren't hungry don't eat. If you think you are hungry have a glass of water or cup of tea.

Thanks @TMMC1 but may have to disagree.. I’m not doing it for a weight based benefit but for the cell rejuvenation benefit… The clean out if you will and the encouragement of new cell growth, etc.

juice cleanses and such, not the same thing.

If you are interested in fasting, just start by extending your fasting window. Basically pushing breakfast back, then skipping it and pushing lunch back etc.
If you interested in finding out more take a look at Mindy Pelz on YouTube, she goes into a lot of detail on how fasting affects the body, and specifically women in terms of where they are on their cycle.
I don't water fast, but do one meal a day pretty regularly, which means a 24 hour fast, and it is very easy if you are eating a low carb/ high fat diet.

Best wishes and hope you get some good advice.

@Sajacas :) Thank you!
That’s perfect as I am doing this more so for real health benefits at a cellular level but realise it can be quite risky and I can suffer, even in a day with lack of food, from shakes and such. So to do it as safely as possible is what I’m after.

seriously - you need 3 days before autophagy kicks in. Yes you can do it, but it's hard work. I know a few people who do. Do you have that level of commitment?

Or an alternative and same benefit - I use Prolon - a fasting mimicking diet - you can do a DIY version from Dr Longo's book, which basically is eating a load of veg and some nuts (very specific quantities). Much easier and has same benefits. Lots of research out there.

But if you do decide to go the water route, which I have in the past, these are my suggestions:

  • Consider having half a tsp of good quality salt with a big glass of water when you wake (and anytime you feel a little faint, but not more than 1 tsp a day)
  • Consider having a glass of black coffee each day
  • Recognise its quite a big t hing for your body to do and go gently with yourself - early nights, gentle walks, yoga etc
  • Know that exercise if you do too much interferes with autophagy

I dont know what your diet is usually like, but if its a healthy one, rather than carb/sugar/fat/upf heavy you will find fasting much easier. If it isn't, you are likely to feel quite rough and have headaches.

If you are tempted but don't feel ready yet, I'd start with the odd 24/36 hour fast to get your body used to fasting before you do a longer one
