All are welcome!

We’re a friendly group that uses Fasting in one form or another to help or maintain our weight loss. We all have our ups and downs, and welcome insights from others and laughter along the way.

Summer's here so let's enjoy getting our bodies ready for July, whatever that means to each of us!

Fridays are our informal day for weighing-in (optional) and reflecting on the week – often with ideas for self-care and new goals in the coming week.

We cheer each other on, and commiserate when things don't go to plan.

If you’re new to this group, do introduce yourself and share your hopes and plans.

And welcoming regulars to our new thread...

I got the job! Had a call today to confirm. I don’t know many details yet but I’m so pleased. After everything this year I’ll end up in a better job than the one I left, and far, far healthier. Onwards and upwards 👍

IDareSay · 26/06/2025 20:51

That’s brilliant news @Mull !

IDareSay · 27/06/2025 20:17

18 hour fast again and a higher calorie but less carby day. 1415 calories, 75g carbs, 80g protein. Kitchen closed at 7pm as DH was scraping wallpaper off and I didn’t want to interrupt him until he finished Grin

Today’s totals included two glasses of rose cremant as it is, after all, FIAF and it’s hot here🍾

How is everyone doing? I might weigh tomorrow or Monday, I’ll see how I feel in the morning (if I remember). July coming up fast!

LumpySpaceCow · 28/06/2025 08:09

Huge congratulations @mull!

My weigh in was pretty static - lost 0.15kg. I feel OK about it though as fasting going well, still keeping up with the exercise and generally just feel great! It's the weekends that are halting my weight loss - I need to curb it with the wine as then I want to eat!

Does anyone else like a drink? How do you manage it and stay lower on calories? The difficulty is, is that I only like really sweet wines and ciders which are full of sugar!

IDareSay · 28/06/2025 08:52

I do like a drink @LumpySpaceCow but fortunately prefer drier wines. If my income allowed I suspect my only tipple would be vintage champagne!

I like a G&T which is pretty low calorie with the right tonic, otherwise I mainly drink Cava, dry as possible so fairly low calorie. I like a cold beer now and again and find many come out at around 130 calories a bottle or can. Canned cocktails are at least calorie counted and portioned so I have those now and again but at over 200 calories each they are an occasional treat.

I don't drink as much as I used to but do have a drink if I fancy one. I just count the calories and accept that it will make for a higher calorie day. I can't see me ever giving it up so I just make it fit my way of eating at the moment. Same with chocolate!

2Early4Breakfast · 28/06/2025 18:17

Hello, and can I join in? I need to get things under control, close my kitchen at 6pm, take more exercise, cut way down on sugar and carbs. Only buy fruit, veg, salad. And drink far more water and tea. I wake early, and struggle to wait until 10am for breakfast, even though I know I feel better waiting till midday.

EATmum · 28/06/2025 18:45

Hello, I’ve been lurking but thought I’d post. I’ve been doing 5:2 since the end of April and weighed in today to find I’d lost 8lb. Very pleased as it’s coming off steadily. I think most of you are doing daily patterns but I like the ‘old school’ version where I eat almost nothing on 2 days a week but don’t worry the rest of the time. It works well with my life. Is anyone else doing that pattern? (And congratulations Mull).

IDareSay · 28/06/2025 20:44

Welcome @2Early4Breakfast and @EATmum you both sound like you have a good plan.

18 hour fast again starting at 1pm, I was running errands this morning and didn’t even notice the time so 1pm came quite naturally today. 1430 calories, 69g carbs, 76g protein. I feel very well fed today.
Kitchen closed at 7.30pm as DH was putting up coving; I have no intention of interrupting him when he is in this mood, it’s not his normal behaviour!

IDareSay · 29/06/2025 19:58

16 hour fast today due to late dinner last night. Today’s numbers: 1200 calories, 81g carbs, 65g protein. Prefer fewer carbs but a few roasties with beef were irresistible!
Kitchen closed at 6pm this evening.

Must weigh this week…!

2Early4Breakfast2025 · 29/06/2025 20:57

Thank you @IDareSay for the welcome.

Got up early, was busy outside until 11am then had planned food. Same at 4pm. Way off-plan in the evening, with coffee and chocolate at 7.30pm

Felt much better before eating in the morning. Will try to plan better tomorrow for thr rest of the day.

xSoFarSoGoodx · 29/06/2025 22:48

After plateauing for 8 months, I started 5:2 in March with protein pacing and then in May (and not afraid to admit) started on weight-loss jabs.

Not for one minute recommending anything but honestly (from my experience only) I don't think jabs alone would be nearly as effective without the fasting - just need to be careful with blood sugar level.

loveyouradvice · 30/06/2025 11:29

Wow, this thread is SO inspiring - its great to read it through and see so many new people.

Shorter windows helps so much @tiredwitless - I agree!! I'll be going back to these in 10 days or so, when DC heads off and the house is our own again.

Huge huge congrats @Mull on getting the job!! You clearly aced the interview. When do you start?? And yes, yes @Mull re small wins and upward spirals. Your plan for this week with temptation midst friends sounds great

And yes, my absence from this thread for 17 days is DEFINITELY a sign I'm off piste... Here is my commitment to post daily for next 2 weeks, REGARDLESS OF HOW I FEEL OR HOW I"VE EATEN, and to start the next thread for August later today or early tomorrow.

I've been unwell and my body goes crazy hungry, thinking that extra food will make me well again - so overeating for 14 of these last 17 days, all except for 2 days were really healthy but just too much (yes, I'm another who agrees re very low UPF). Does anyone else find that being unwell makes you hungry??

And yes, I had one very stressful day once I was well again, and I noticed myself just plunging in to everything available food-wise. Luckily, I was able to restrain it to just one day so I've been back on track for the last 2 days.

loveyouradvice · 30/06/2025 11:32

And my check in 17 days after last Friday checkin:
SW: 14.2
CW: 11.11, so 5lbs up on 2 weeks ago... Hmm...
GW: 10.10.... when life settles down again
GW for end June: 11.4 or 11.5... Well Ive missed that one

I'm currently juggling healing from hospital op so eating lots of protein and losing weight... And recognise of course that putting weight on is NOT going to do my healing any good at all.

So I'm back to 100g protein a day in an 8 hour window for the next ten days, and then looking at shorter windows again....

Rather wonderfully my body today has not woken hungry (which it was doing) so I can have a 12-8 eating window which is my goal for the coming weeks, with a little bit of flex with friends over.

And in 10 days, I'm guessing I'll go back to a regular 10-4 six hour window which suits me best when not needing to eat a sociable dinner.

What windows are working best for all of you at the moment??

18 hour fast today. Today’s numbers: 1250 calories, 62g carbs, 62g protein. Haven’t eaten much at all today after a huge cheese and ham omelette at lunchtime but succumbed to a Magnum at teatime Bear
Kitchen closed at 6pm this evening and have set a reminder to weigh myself in the morning…

Posting daily has really helped me @loveyouradvice so I hope it works for you too. I do find being unwell makes me want comforting food, and sadly a lot of what I find comforting is usually very calorific!
An eating window of noon until 6pm is what I aim for, but 11am to 7pm is just fine. I’m rarely outside those hours and it not only works for limiting food intake but I also find I do sleep better.

2Early4Breakfast2025 · 30/06/2025 21:24

Fasting until 11am is suiting me well. Had tea around 4pm, but then grazed until after 7pm with crackers and pancakes. An improvement on yesterday's food, but couldn't get to sleep easily.

Mull · 01/07/2025 07:46

Hi all, great to read all the chat. I’m away at the moment but trying to stick to my mantra of MINDFUL eating. Did OK yesterday as had a toastie for lunch which was dripping in cheese but I only ate half of it, and about half the chips. Had lamb kofta for dinner which was lovely and decided to try the cookie dough pudding. It was massive but I ate it and enjoyed it MINDFULLY. Off to hotel breakfast in a while so we’ll see how that goes…

loveyouradvice · 01/07/2025 10:04

I love this @Mull.... my aim is to eat everything consciously rather than unconsciously by the end of the year ... I feel like Im learning a new skill, or developing a new muscle.

Eating and truly enjoying is such a lovely thing to be able to do - I've eaten far too much in my life without noticing it, or just voraciously because my body and mind "insisted I need it now"....

And my daily accountability...

Yesterday was a good day, DD new boyfriend staying for first time and her birthday today, so yes, food and alcohol aplenty....

My goal - echoing @Mull , and thanks for reminding me of this - is to eat everything "consciously, for pleasure and for health" while they are here....

My approach - lots of the healthy stuff, and small/very small amounts of the other things, so yes I enjoyed a small Aperol yesterday, and a very very small Affogato. And all in an 8/9 hour window, so starting eating later than I normally do.

I'm wanting to lose those 6lbs I've put on in the last 2 weeks FAST.... before it sticks!!

EATmum · 01/07/2025 22:27

Had a bizarre one yesterday - it was one of my ‘2’ days, and I tend not to eat anything until dinner on those days, so I don’t feel hungry at night time - my sleep sucks anyway and trying to sleep while feeling hungry is really tricky. Anyway we were going out last night and due to bad planning couldn’t grab anything before or after the gig until we got home - which was actually after midnight. So in fact I did a 24 (26?) hour fast without intending to! A cup of tea and a marmite sandwich in bed were my reward.

I find it funny how much your mind affects your hunger. On a fast day, I know I’m not eating till the evening, so I don’t get hungry. It’s like it’s disassociated. But on any normal day I’m eating my hands by lunchtime.
