oops posted too soon! I am aiming for only 13 hours tonight but it’s more about resisting evening snacks at the mo. I am another who finds evening fasts better than skipping breakfast. I am struggling now though even though its only been an hour 😩

HarpQuartet · 03/09/2024 21:31

I did a 10k jog/shuffle this evening and was thinking of this group as I had to make the decision around 6k whether to head for home or extend my route (my goal was 10k but I do tend to give up on difficult things!). So thank you all for helping without even knowing it!

HarpQuartet · 03/09/2024 21:33

@AnnieLewis my goal for the end of the year is to have got below 75kg, and not to have gone back above that over Christmas! I also need to find a way of keeping up my running habit when the days are shorter and colder. How about you?

Clearingaspace · 03/09/2024 22:18

Oh wow 10k is amazing well done @HarpQuartet

AnnieLewis · 03/09/2024 22:22

Ooh well done on a 10k - I'm looking forward to getting back into a routine after the kids are back to school.

I'm sitting at between 74kg/ 11st8lb kg so would love to get to around 70kg/11 Stone by Xmas which I hope should be do-able. I'm only 5ft3 so am far too heavy at this weight. To get to healthy BMI I need to be 10st which seems totally out of reach right now.
Anyway. Let's see.

AnnieLewis · 03/09/2024 22:24

@Clearingaspace I think I will, just don't want to depress myself with a summer weight gain. Silly I know. Just need to get back in the right head space.

GameOfJones · 03/09/2024 22:35

@imperialqueen hopefully it works for you. I have to say I like closing my eating window by around 6pm as it means the cooking and washing up is all done and the whole evening is mine for watching TV, taking a long bath, reading etc. I'm still amazed as I was a habitual evening snacker but I genuinely feel much better for it and when I go off plan like last weekend, I really notice the difference now.

Fouramclub · 03/09/2024 23:25

Thanks for starting this thread @ItRainsItPours! I weighed 73.8kg. Aim is to get to 70kg by Christmas and be able to keep it off. This is incredibly ambitious given my track record but I'm working hard this time on my snacking habits!

Clearingaspace · 05/09/2024 00:26

@GameOfJones your evenings sound lovely - I really need to try and get everything done straight after dinner and have a clear evening- I am terrible at procrastinating- in fact I was mid dishes when I stopped to post on here …

@Fouramclub good luck with your target - hopefully we can all get on weight losing streak!

@AnnieLewis hope your weigh in was ok if you did the scale

I have been doing pretty well and was feeling good about my morning weigh in, but got ahead of myself. In my efforts to avoid upf I had baked potato and cheese followed by an apple for lunch, unfortunately it screwed up my blood sugar on my way home from the supermarket, which lead to me snarfing down two of the three ‘eat natural bars’ I had just bought dh. Dinner also fell apart a bit too as a result. It’s a shame as the lunch was yum!

hope all doing ok

HarpQuartet · 05/09/2024 07:41

Morning all

@imperialqueen what's your plan for the day? I stopped eating at 3.30pm yesterday and haven't woken up hungry - the body/mind/hunger connection is obviously a complicated thing.

I'm going to try going out for my slow run mid-morning, which is when it's likely to be if I carry on through the winter.

HarpQuartet · 05/09/2024 07:43

@Clearingaspace I'd call that at least a semi-win - I had jacket potato for lunch too yesterday, was yum also!

Fouramclub · 05/09/2024 08:44

@HarpQuartet @imperialqueen I would really like to be able to stop eating at 3:30pm but fear I would need to be absolutely stuffed to do that as I just can't sleep properly if i and hungry. For example on Tuesday I had soup to break my fast at 12pm, fruit in between and dinner at 6:30pm consisting of fish, veg, toast and yoghurt and fruit and honey and I just couldn't sleep until 1:30am because my tummy was rumbling. Perhaps I hadn't eaten enough calories.

what do you both eat at 3:30 to keep you going until the next day?

HarpQuartet · 05/09/2024 09:07

Sorry to say I'm not a good role model here: sensible lunch, then a bit of a storm of crisps, cake, ice cream, that sort of thing until I felt uncomfortably full and stopping for the day was an act of mercy towards my body. Previously I would have done that AND eaten dinner with the family, already feeling full but wanting to model "normal" behaviour of eating together. Obviously the better thing would be to eat the nutritious dinner and ditch the other stuff, but one step at a time.

Clearingaspace · 05/09/2024 10:07

@Fouramclub when I skip dinner my lunch would be substantial and more like dinner than a light lunch iyswim but I would ideally try to avoid anything likely to set off cravings. You might find that your hunger at night is the same if you skip dinner but not worse than if you have had a low cal dinner.

@HarpQuartet i can relate to what you describe often I am not even hungry at dinner as I get munchies at 3:00, but I have dinner just because that’s what people do.

My weigh in was ok this morning - phew, I will be more careful but maybe potato is not totally off the menu! I am avoiding bread this week and today was the first day I really wanted toast for breakfast!

imperialqueen · 05/09/2024 13:41

Fouramclub I apologise if I have alluded to not eating after 3pm! Or even not snacking at night. I am terrible for eating at night and all night long. I've been so tired the last few days that I haven't stopped eating all day and night.

I eat at 12pm today for the first time. Going to try and avoid the 4pm munchies and then night time snacking today. I will have an apple or two at 4pm to help (hopefully).

HarpQuartet amazing and well done not eating after 3.30pm yesterday.

My aim for today is not let my fatigue kick in by keeping myself very, very busy.

Good luck to everyone fasting today.

imperialqueen · 05/09/2024 13:45

GameOfJones you sound like you've got this non night time snacking under control. I like the sound of your plan. My excuse is I have 3 semi adult children who go in and destroy my kitchen all night long. One of whom keeps coming home at night with chocolate buttons and malteesers for me.

@EmbraceTheBeans welcome (back) we are are about accountability and halting the downward slide. It’s so easy to regain lost weight.

I eat jacket potatoes most days for lunch and though delicious they are quite virtuous. I tend to load mine with coleslaw as well as about 200 calories of cheese. Add on a decent sized banana and I am full till dinner. It helps I am only eating twice a day.
I would not be able to stop eating at 3:30pm, that’s why I don’t have lunch till after 2pm. Then I’m straight into school pick up, after school activities and family meal. No time to think about whether I’m hungry. Evenings are my downfall, I try to have plenty of protein in dinner to see me through the evening.
My house is still upside down but the builders have gone so I have the weekend to try to get cleaned and organised. I look forward to setting up my microwave so I can get back to my normal jacket potato lunch. On that note has anyone on here had success with an air fryer? My microwave is on the way out but I have limited kitchen space so it’s one or the other.

That would be extremely difficult for me to say no to! Fortunately my DDs are both young and in bed before 8pm so can't tempt me with treats 😀.

I did a 20 hour fast today and felt absolutely fine. Lunch at 1pm and dinner done at 6.30pm. I've lost 2lbs this week which I'm really pleased with but I'm still 3lbs above my pre holiday weight.

HarpQuartet · 05/09/2024 23:58

@EmbraceTheBeans is that you stealth/silky?

HarpQuartet · 06/09/2024 00:00

@imperialqueen obviously I get that the chocolate buttons are not necessarily what you want, BUT I do think that having an offspring who brings you chocolate is a sign of excellent parenting 😁

Good luck beating the dog, I have a chunky cat. A name change was obviously needed as Harp spotted you a mile off, not so stealthy after all 🤣🤣🤣
