Fasting / 5:2 diet

Talk about intermittent fasting and 5:2, including what’s worked for others. Mumsnet hasn't checked the qualifications of anyone posting here. You may wish to speak to a medical professional before starting any diet.

Looking for opinions / advice before I pay &120 to join online fast 800 programme.

I want to loose about 3 stone. Part of the issue that I have with changing my eating habits is that I struggle with executive function. This is partly due to ADHD, plus having an overwhelming amount of stuff to juggle (single parenting, mid-divorce, full time self employed, elderly cantankerous parents, perimenopause, trying to keep head above water etc). I appreciate that sounds like an excuse, and maybe it is to an extent but I absolutely know that willpower and mindset aren't enough to eat differently.

I want to do the MM Fast 800 diet, which I know is doable using the book etc, but I've also found the paid-for online programme and I am tempted to give it a try. It is free for a week and then £119 for 12 weeks. I'm hoping that it will give me a bit more of a handhold and accountability than doing it with just the book and make me more likely to stick with it.

Any thoughts gratefully received.

I don’t know about that programme but I generally think it’s worth spending money on things that matter to you if you can afford it.

i would also recommend the book The Last Diet which has some great exercises for mindset change, whichever plan you’re doing. And it’s more like a tenner.

that doesn’t seem out of proportion compared to weight watchers or similar though. Generally you need to pay a bit for quality support….

Generally I would be against this sort of thing thinking I could do it myself and save the money.

That said I started the fast 800, have lost 3st recently but spent money on a gym and Strava subscription.

If you join and it motivates you to get on track with weight loss and become healthier then the £120 would be worth it.

If you can't do it on your own I think you'll struggle to keep it off once the program finishes.

I'd be reluctant to pay for this kind of program for that reason. You're better off finding something that works for you longterm, even if the weight loss is much slower.

I’m also thinking of starting this in Sept and eyeing up the app. For me, I think the ease of meal planning in there and being able to generate popping list for the week based off that that I can then use for online shop would be helpful. Not to say you couldn’t just do that with pen and paper mind!

anyone used the app and got any feedback on it?

I paid for the website access (pre-app) and I lost 12kg in 12 weeks. For me, it was absolutely worth it as I conceived DD2 naturally as a result, whereas we had needed fertility treatment for DD1. I like the meal planning functionality and the shopping list creator. I mentally wrote it off as an investment in my health and having spent the money, I felt like I needed to make sure I got the use out of it.

Bitten the bullet and downloaded the app, starting the plan today!

I have thought about this before but I think I would spend the money on a healthy box service like mindful chef - I think if you look around you can get 25% off. At least that way the money you are spending will contribute to food costs? I had the free access to 800 app but didn’t actually cook any of the recipes 🤪
