Anyone want to join me trying Every Other Day fasting

Just that really. Rather than the 5:2 I am going to do every other day. I need to shift quite a bit of weight quickly and I find the 5.2 too easy to put the fasting day off, I kept saying… oh I’ll do it tomorrow and then not! Having a fast every other day will hopefully work better for me, I tend to only follow rules when I know I can’t wriggle out of them as when there is the potential for a loophole I’m all over it and then I fall off the wagon.

I plan on consuming 500 calories on a fasting day and then eating and drinking normally every other day. I am on day 4 so am eating normally today. I weighed 80.5 kg before I started and I am 78.5 kg today

I don’t plan on doing this forever but I am going to aim for a month or two and then depending on how it’s gone hope reduce to a normal 5.2 in the hope that I will have developed some good habits/tolerance.

Is anyone with me?

Thanks @Clearingaspace I am happily surprised and was not expecting that. I am trying not to get carried away and know there will be fluctuations and plateaus.

What do you generally eat on the up days? I still have a blow out on dinner and still drink wine but the fasting is sort of training me not to snack and I think that’s been my biggest weakness for years.

@Duh yesterday I had keto bread and eggs, chicken soup for lunch, apple and dark choc, an M&S calorie counter meal, glass of wine with friends .. plus a slice of dds pizza when i got home from the pub! I should have skipped the pizza but tbh that was fairly restrained for overall. I am up today obviously but some of that is extra food weight so could be worse. You are right I need to change how I eat on up days to make it sustainable

@Clearingaspace that doesn’t seem bad to me at all. I would much rather eat like that on the up days than try to reduce it further otherwise where is the joy of an up day?!

Yes good point! I just want to be done with weightloss now but that’s shortsighted because maintenance is also hard!

Duh · 21/05/2024 09:10

Hi @Clearingaspace how are you getting on? I’m down to 73.2 kgs which I am pleased with as I am now in a healthy BMI range! This is important to me as we will shortly be undergoing IVF (I will need to stop fasting during this time and if successful during pregnancy).

I had some family staying for a long weekend so did more of a 5:2 rather than strictly every other day fasting last week but I am pleased that this diet allows you to be flexible on occasion.

@duh I am a terrible adf buddy and am off the wagon again! Bit stressy at home right now.

that is amazing to be in the healthy range - you have done so well. What a lovely motivation for weightloss too ❤️ do you think you might increase your up days now or just be flexible when it suits you? This diet seems to really work so beautifully for you!

Hi. I'd like to do this. Starting with a fast tomorrow.

Duh · 24/05/2024 11:54

Hello @StarShipControl you are very welcome! I have really taken to this diet but I am going to have to eat everyday now as we undergo an IVF cycle starting today. I’m so thrilled to be at a compatible weight for IVF which I could not have achieved with Alternate Day Fasting.

I hope ADF works for you, I found the first day very hard and then it was much easier. I have never lost weight so quickly nor had such a tidy house as not cooking/eating/washing up 3 times a day frees up a hell of a lot of time!

I really like the ADF lifestyle and will revert to it, hopefully after a successful pregnancy!

@Clearingaspace I hope things are less stress for you at home and you can enjoy a long relaxing bank holiday weekend x

I've had to postpone my start date unfortunately!
Had to get some antibiotics today so give me a few days and I'll be back. Last push before summer holidays.
In the meantime, I'm doing no processed food and only 3 meals a day.
