I have about a stone to lose and am thinking about trying intermittent fasting. Have others had success with it?

A couple of other questions...can I drink peppermint tea/green tea with lemon outside of the 8 hours?

Also, if I occasionally move the 8 hour window slightly is that a problem, ie such as if we are going out for dinner so I need to start and finish later?

Thanks

@CoastPath thank you!

If you are cooking for a family I would recommend getting a recipe book with Traybake style meals ,as it gives you an opportunity to do different textures .
Load up with veg and protein on your portion ,and the others can have more of the carb element .(brown rice ,whole meal pasta etc ),I do the prep ahead of time so it's ready to pop in the oven when you are ready .
We have lost over 9 stone and are maintaining with this way of eating .
We don't eat anything processed and my DH has reversed his diabetes .
We are 57 and it's given us a new lease of life .

I’ve just started doing this so it’s good to hear about everyone’s experiences. An eating window of 4 hours sounds hardcore, I’ll be sticking to 16:8!

I tend to just drink (hot) water during my fasting window, which is 7pm-11am. I have a cup of tea at 11am with a snack (nuts), then lunch around 1pm, a snack about 3-4pm and an evening meal around 6pm. Sometimes I can forgo the afternoon snack - I guess it’s just habit because I usually have a cup of tea then.

I’m also calorie counting and making sure I have enough protein with each meal. I have the occasional biscuit and odd sweet treat, which makes it more sustainable for me. So far so good!

How are you getting on @Windysquall ?

Jegersur · 06/06/2024 20:00

I do it and find it very easy to stick to. I’m not trying to lose any weight, though.

Hey @FastingFantastic, thanks for asking! I’ve lost about 5lbs but that is down to reducing carbs more than anything, I think.

I’ve stuck to 16:8 most days, but have the occasional day where it’s not possible but I don’t stress about it!

I would say that having this ‘rule’ has made me feel more in control and has certainly stopped the evening snacking. But ultimately it’s what you eat during that window is what really matters.

How about you?

LMMuffet · 11/06/2024 09:52

I know everyone is different, but for me, 16:8 didn’t make any difference. What does work for me is 5:2. But it is much harder.

FastingFantastic · 11/06/2024 10:33

I do 20:4 and it makes a massive difference. Eating two meals only 4 hours apart makes it hard to over eat. I don’t think I could cope with 5:2 but it’s what works for you.
