Frustrated ive only lost an average 2lbs a week

I maybe need some perspective.

Basically I weigh a lot! 18 stone 3 currently. Ive been doing 2mad fasting since start of January. I eat lunch at roughly 12:30pm and dinner at roughly 7pm each day. Ive not been snacking in between. I've been drinking tea / coffee when fasting but with no milk. Ive been sticking to this well and been conscious about my meals too so I'm not eating rubbish.

I guess I thought because I weigh so much that initially it would come off quite quickly. I had easily expected to be in the 17 stones by February but haven't made it. I'm only losing about 2lbs a week though.

I have a birthday next week and was going to have a cheat day but not sure now because that'll just set me back even more.

Was I wrong to expect a bigger loss at the beginning?

I would be thrilled with two pounds a week. It’s a very sensible amount to lose, each week.

Meadowfinch · 28/01/2024 10:31

But that's great! It is healthy sustainable weight loss, the kind you want.

You'll be almost TWO STONE lighter by the end of April. Down to 14.5 stone by the end of July.

I'd be planning a glorious swimsuit and some new holiday clothes. Keep it up. 🤗

2lb a week is excellent progress. Well done you, & keep it up. 👏👏👏

I lost 5 stone in 11 months, and kept it off. My experience is that significant weight loss is a marathon, not a sprint. It’s a lifestyle change, not a ‘diet’. It’s a fundamentally and permanently different relationship with food & exercise.

So is it time to step things up by increasing your activity levels? How about getting a tracker app on your phone & setting yourself a daily steps target? Start with a manageable number & build from there. My daily target is 10,000 and, averaged out over a week, I usually exceed this.

Forgetaboutme · 28/01/2024 10:34

I guess i just hoped for an initial big loss then 2lbs a week once I'd lost a bit to start with. Setting a target of being in the 17 stones by February was maybe silly since i already feel like I'm behind.

2lbs a week is over 100lbs in a year!! It’s amazing. Keep going.

TeenDivided · 28/01/2024 10:37

Set yourself a target of 1lb per week, that is still 4 stone in a year.
Then you will be delighted by anything more.

KnackeredBack · 28/01/2024 10:38

2lbs a week is EXACTLY the sort of sustainable weight loss you want...not too fast so that you lose muscle, but rather fat stores instead. Well done you.

This is spades

1kg a week 2.2lbs requires an average deficit of 1000 calories a day. If you've averaged 2lb a week throughout January you're doing really well.

you can work out a personalised tdee estimate with a tool like this one https://tdeecalculator.net/

How are you getting on op?

FrancisSeaton · 25/05/2024 18:52

Only? Try being me! Calorie counting and exercising and have lost 8 pounds in 4 months!

Do you feel better though, as though your body composition is gradually changing in favour of muscle rather than fat? I was disappointed by weight loss until I got out the measuring tape and realised how much progress I'd made. Now, I don't weigh myself at all as it seems such a distraction from the real job of becoming fitter and stronger.

Well off the wagon yet again. Stalled for about 2 weeks at the same weight. Got frustrated and decided to have one week off then next thing you know over 3 months have gone by

It's a familiar story and we have all been there.

What's the plan going forward? Are you ok the frame of mind to draw a line?
