I do 15:9 as 16:8 is quite hard straight away. I've been about 2 months on 15:9 now and the weight comes off very slowly. But it does come off not on. It's a way of life not a fad. First get your head into the right mindset that it's not a short term fix. Secondly don't spend money on it. There's a free app called Fastic that you can use. You will only stop when you don't want to pay anymore if you do that. Good luck.

My advice would be to read Fast Feast Repeat and follow all the advice, especially about fasting clean. Doing this has been a revelation for me.

I’ve tried fasting before while allowing myself Diet Coke and a little bit of milk in my tea and found it so hard, and felt hungry all day. but with only having black coffee and water during the fasting window I am now fasting for 19-20 hours per day, finding it easy and losing weight at a sensible rate despite going out for dinner, eating dessert most nights and being peri-menopausal.

I’ve been doing this for 4 months now and I feel like I will be able to sustain this long term.

I listen to her intermittent fasting stories podcast for extra motivation when I get a wave of hunger.

Thank you for your responses, I'll look at her podcasts and the app x😄

I started about 10 weeks ago. Some days I can do 19-20 hours, some only 15 - the key for me is that I go with what I can manage that day without criticising myself

Some days it's really, REALLY easy.

I've lost about 4 pounds in 10 weeks but I'm not doing it for weight loss - I did it to change my sleep and I'm now getting 7 hours plus a night - this is a huge difference from the 5-6 I was getting.

CatOnAHotShedRoof · 17/07/2023 08:59

I'm doing 15:9 most days, occasionally doing 16:8 where it fits with my day. It seems to be working well for me, with roughly 1lb a week weight loss. I've lost 20 lbs this year so far, and have around another stone to go to reach the weight I'd be comfortable with.

I like IF, it works. I agree with PP - don't spend extra money on it, use the free apps as trackers, listen to Gin Stephens's podcasts Intermittent Fasting Stories and Fast.Feast.Repeat, which is her new series.

I listened to some podcast interviews with Dr Mindy Pelz and, whilst she advocates IF for health, I think she goes too far with telling you you need all sorts of extra supplements and stuff. You don't need any of that.

I've been doing it 3 months, anything from 13/11 to 20/4 just flexible as to how I feel and what the day is like. Mostly I find it quite easy and it's really helped me stop snacking at night. I like the fact that I can choose to eat anything, and adapt the eating window. But in the evening if it's 2 hours after dinner it feels a waste to eat and lose that 2 hours I've already accumulated! My average time according to zero app is almost 16/8 and I've lost 4kg - slow and steady but it feels really sustainable.

Hi, can I join please. Looking to loose at least 1 stone, hopefully more for a bit family wedding next summer. What do people eat while not fasting? Can you eat relatively normal or do you need to be very strict?

Mull · 19/07/2023 17:10

@Merrz I’ve only been doing 16:8 for 4wks but I’ve been focusing on upping my protein to feel full as only eating two meals a day. I’m a carb fiend so I’m not going no carb, just trying to change the proportions on my plate. For blood sugar reasons, I’m also trying to have no refined sugar but I have been quite extreme.

I've been fasting for 4yrs now - have lost 8 stone and now maintaining. These days, I do 22/2 during the week and 18/6 at weekends. Top tips::Zero app, Gin's books and podcasts and fizzy water. I was recently interviewed for the fasting stories podcast - will be published in August!

Wow, that's amazing. Well done. I love listening to Gin Stephens's podcast. The stories are so inspiring. They're really helping me along with my fasting/weight loss.

I started doing 16/8 IF a couple of years ago, initially motivated by trying to stop me snacking in the evenings after dinner. I found it worked really well and helped me maintain previous weight loss. More recently I've become really fascinated in the role of the gut microbiome and how it links to all sorts of different health aspects, including longevity, diabetes, insulin resistance, cancer/dementia prevention etc. Fasting overnight or longer allows all the healthy gut microbes to focus on repairing and healing the gut rather than digesting what has just been eaten and so this has been my motivation to continue. I did the Zoe programme (Tim Spector
joinzoe.com/) where they analyse your microbiome and also you wear a glucose monitor and test your blood fat response which I found really insightful. There are some great podcasts with Tim Spector and also one by the Glucose Goddess with Stephen Bartlett in his Diary of a CEO podcast series.

Earlier this year I was diagnosed with early breast cancer and I'm convinced the fact that so far I've managed to cope with surgery/chemo/radiotherapy with fairly minimal side effects has been due to having a healthy gut biome and fasting 16/8 wherever possible.
