So, after being very sedentary for about 2 years due to many factors but the main one being low mood brought on by perimenopause, I started exercising 3 months ago. Walking, started personal training ( painful but had to be done ) but I was putting up weight, definitely toning a bit but the scales was going in the wrong direction and I’m in an unhealthy BMI range …. For the first time in my life. None of my clothes fit me and I was just feeling yuck.

Was chatting to my dsis last week and she suggested intermittent fasting. I started last Sunday on the 14/10 to ease myself in. I’ve cut out rubbish and ate within my eating window. I just weighed myself and I’m down 5 pounds!!!! I cannot believe it….. so thrilled….. nothing has worked for me really and I was putting it down to hormones. I’m beyond happy and really wasn’t expecting this on week one…. This has really motivated me to keep going.

I’m hoping to increase my fasting slowly to 16/8. I want to be sensible about this and stick with it, so any tips to help would be much appreciated. I’m so excited by this now and I want my success to continue and I do realise it’s only week one, but just so happy with the loss this week.

Wow that is a great start, well done. My main tip is what you are already doing, cutting ultra processed food. I think this is what has reduced my cravings the most and led to the weight loss.

I find the 16:8 really easy to maintain and combining that with a healthy whole food diet leads to weight loss without the need to cut calories. The only other thing I do is try to minimise glucose spikes by food ordering (if you have something startchy/sugary try to eat fibre then fat then protein first as it slows the release of the sugar and also try to exercise after, even a short walk with help.

Also don't get disheartened if you wright flatlines for a bit after an initial drop. Mine goes down quite irratically but the overall trend is down.

Congratulations. I am.seriosly thinkin about doing this. Years ago lost 10 stone on Weight watchers and now I've put 5 back on. I know why but I gutted. Going to look into this. Keep it up.

Wow, well done you!
I’m in a similar position with regards to putting on more stubborn weight in peri menopause and I had a go with intermittent fasting but struggled as my husband didn’t like eating his third meal alone and got tetchy with me ….. even though he agrees I need to lose weight and cutting down like him just hasn’t worked for me 😔
I’m going to start again but my willpower is awful and I would love to connect with a diet buddy. Just someone to chat about how we’re getting on and encourage with understanding. I’m in North Cumbria but don’t need to meet up, happy to message and occasionally chat.

I have dieted for so many years
Looking back at my photos, I wasn't fat but always thought I was.
Now at 57, I am so not where I want to be with my weight.
Does the 5:2 diet work?
Has anyone tried it?
Thanks
