Does this actually work? Need to lose

As title really. I am sick of being 2 stone overweight, feel like I've tried everything.

I just entered the London marathon ballot and going to start running again tomorrow

So my question is does fasting actually work? I feel like I could easily do 11am - 7pm window, it can't be that far outside my normal. If that's the case then how will it work? Any help appreciated

It has meant I've lost a stone in 6 weeks fairly easily when 3 years of exercise and calorie counting have failed. I'm strict about avoiding all calories outside the eating window.

I think different things work for different people but I'm so glad I tried this. I have combined it with very low sugar which has helped manage my appetite outside eating hours.

The Fastic app has been really helpful

Whirlyswirky that's amazing weight loss. How long do you fast for? Every day? Px

HowManySunflowers · 28/04/2023 22:00

When I tried this I lost the first 6-7lb easily and then the weight loss stalled. I think because I wasn't being careful enough during my non-fasting times.

It's working for me. I only eat between 12pm -7pm

Fatat40 · 28/04/2023 22:17

This is amazing @whirlyswirly

I am addicted to sugar. How have you cut down?

Have you read the Fast800 book? It is explained in there. The body first uses sugars for energy, so whatever you just ate it uses up first as easily available. Then it switches to glycogen stores , the most stable form of glucose. These are in your muscles and liver. After that runs low (about 10-12 hours after last meal) it switches to fat burning. I find 14 hours of fasting to be good to support weight loss e.g. dinner at 8pm - breakfast at 10am.

I can feel the switch in those 2 hours of 8am-10am, I feel like I am running on clean fuel. If I can push it to say 11am I might but that can be a struggle as it also starts to slow my energy when my body realises there is no food coming soon!

I gave up the sugar originally as a January challenge! I was addicted too. I used to grab a handful of those giant chocolate buttons after dinner and they gave me a noticeable head rush. I also got shaky and jittery between meals. I was 2 stone overweight with loads of fat around my waist and was worried about my risk of type 2 diabetes.

I did it for January (was nowhere near as bad as I thought but I did eat lots of berries and melon to take the edge off) and then continued in feb.

In March I finally stood on the scales, nearly passed out (had thought I was around 12st and I was 13.5!!) and decided to try the fasting. I went to a nutritionist mid March when I'd lost some weight and she was really encouraging about it all so I've carried on.

I'm now 12 6 and want to be back under 11 by late summer. My figure is far better even at this weight though and clothes are fitting again. My loss seems to be mainly flab!

What I like is that it's simple. I felt I needed a rule to stick to and here it is. I don't stuff my face in eating hours but nor do I calorie count and I still eat out several times a month.

Can I ask, does this include no cups of tea until 12?

SmilingTitan · 30/04/2023 10:43

I was going to ask the same question @wednesdaynamesep. I feel like I could easily go without food until lunchtime as I often do this without planning to but I'd really struggle without at least two cups of tea in the mornings.

Franticbutterfly · 30/04/2023 10:57

I fast because I've just been diagnosed type 2 diabetic and am getting my glucose levels under control. I do 24 hour fasts, then eat a meal, wait another 24 hours and so on. I'm low carb as well. Plus I do exercise but nothing strenuous (slow peloton ride for 30 mins which keeps adrenaline and cortisol down, plus two 30 min walks). The fasting is very doable but not if I have something where I have to think from about 3pm. I won't do it every day, but the scale is very motivating.

whirlyswirly · 30/04/2023 21:03

You can absolutely have tea but you need to minimise milk - I have herbal tea or black coffee until 11.

MistySkiesAreGone · 30/04/2023 22:21

No milk in tea when fasting.
