Feeling desperate. Have been doing IF fir ages, am eating less, nit drinking, no snacks, cook everything, walk to and from work etc etc. And nothing is changing. What more can I do?

What are you eating when you do it? How much weight do you have to lose? Are you losing inches even if not pounds? How long have you been doing IF? All diets take time remember none will have the weight off immediately.

What more can you do? You can actually count your calories and do the math. It’s tedious boring and irritating to weigh it all out, and evaluate your nutrition but this is what you need to do. Chances are your eating too much calorie dense or carby foods.

I hoped one didn't need to calorie count on IF. Was just trying to do it by eye and by cutting out milk, alcohol etc. I wonder if being late 50s just means all efforts are doomed.

Am trying to shift 2 Stone, but any downwards would be a good thing. Have been doing it for a couple of years, with breaks occasionally when on holiday. Never go mad with food or drink anymore. Literally zero difference.

Do you do any exercise?
And of course IF only works if you're eating less overall. If you're eating a lot in those hours then it's missing the point..

bravelittletiger · 21/10/2022 08:16

I listened to a podcast recently that said that fasting diets have been tested on men and not women and that as a result they aren't as effective (or can even be counter productive) for women. It can make women hold onto or even gain weight. If it doesn't work for you I would ditch it.

Being late 50s has a massive impact on metabolism. My Dm is a little older than you (mid 60s), and a combination of her height, weight and age means that on a lazy day on a weekend where she doesn't move much, she's lucky to burn 1000 calories for the whole day (according to her fitbit).

I'm taller, heavier and (obviously!) younger and I burn 1500-1600 doing the same.

Can you exercise? It seems there comes a point where you can't cut food anymore, and have to create the needed deficit by activity.

wordleaddict · 21/10/2022 08:20

Ugh. Exercise. Guess I have to. Lots of walking not enough? Would it need to be heart-bear raising? Thanks for your advice.

Heart beat. Of course

Well the higher your HR the more calories you'll burn. Walking doesn't burn as much as many people think. Even if I walk 25k steps (rare but it happens!) I'm knackered but always disappointed with what fitbit tells me calories wise.

Fwiw I hate working out. I bought a mini trampoline for in front of the TV which gets my HR up even when I do it "gently" I.e. not leaping all over the place. I lost over two stone just adding it to my routine.

wordleaddict · 21/10/2022 09:39

Mini trampoline. Wow. May try that!
