I walk for an 1-2hrs a day 4-6 days a week I'm starting a diet today and It's about 2200 calories but I checked the website calculator to check my bmr and I look at the chart and for my activity level it saidI needed between 3407 and 3741 calories a day is 2200 too low for me

No one burns that many calories walking!
Depending on your weight and how fast you walk, you can burn approximately 480 to 888 calories speed walking for two hours

I would redo the calculation without the walking in it and see how different it is.

Thats a very high allowance. Do you have a lot to lose?

purplesequins · 27/05/2022 07:15

more than 3000 - that's almost tour de france calorie requirement.
it's very unlikely that that's your bmr.

walking is great exercise, but it doesn't burn many extra calories.

Stag82 · 27/05/2022 07:26

Depends what you are looking to achieve through your diet? The people I know on 3,500 cals are either semi elite athletes or on the gains train.

I would do the calculator again and play around with how active you are.

NutellaEllaElla · 27/05/2022 07:34

Surely it depends on how tall, heavy and male you are. Check the tdeecalculator and aim for 500 calories less than your tdee.

TibetanTerrah · 27/05/2022 07:36

Are you very tall and/or heavy OP? A higher bmi will burn more calories a day both exercising and resting.

I knew a man who was 6ft1 and 22st and his BMR was 3400 calories, even if he stayed in bed all day thats what he would burn.

*really sorry I've worded this so bluntly, I haven't had coffee yet but my intention is not to be rude at all Flowers

Noisyprat · 27/05/2022 07:37

You are reading the chart incorrectly or have input incorrect data.

If you are trying to lose weight forget about your exercise calories. The amount you are using will be minimal and it's too easy to go over, also I don't believe you can directly equate a calorie burned to a calorie eaten because you don't know exactly what you've burned.

Hydrangeatea · 29/06/2022 11:50

I would eat my TDEE calories at sedentary on the chart and go from there - any exercise calories are a bonus. What I have discovered after years of wearing garmins, fit bits and apple watches is that EVERY watch calculates calories wrong and therefore I never eat them and never add them in to a daily calculator. The only time I have ever lost weight is when I just eat my TDEE calories at sedentary.
