Longer fasts. Anyone interested in a support thread?

I've been doing intermittent fasting on and off for years, ever since Michael Mosley's first programme on it (an episode of Horizon, I think?).

I'm a bit of an 'all or nothing' person and feel better when there's not too much wriggle room. But latterly my will-power has gone walkabout and I need to get back into a sustainable rhythm.

Having recently read Jason Fung's 'The Obesity Code' I'm motivated to attempt some longer fasts (i.e. over 24 hours). I have managed this in the past and believe I can again but think it might help to have the encouragement of other people attempting something similar, even if not necessarily at the same time.

I finished eating at 9pm last night (had a bad day) and intend to eat nothing now until Thursday evening, so about 70 hours fasting. Doing ok so far but it's evenings I find hard and going to bed hungry isn't much fun!

Anyone else?

How's it going with the two fasts a week, Nettle?

I'm half way through this week's 40 hour fast. Feeling the pangs a bit because OH has just made his evening meal and it smells really good, but I lost over half a stone last week combining fasting with low carb and TRE so I'm feeling super-motivated.

I put on a dress today that was tight 10 days ago and it feels so much better - definitely worth a few hunger pangs.

Hi LittlePearl,
Not very well!
I can manage one a week quite easily, but last Thursday I only lasted until lunchtime.
Dd made cakes and the smell was driving me crazy. That and Dh telling me I didn't need to lose any more weight finished me off. Within minutes I was tucking into a bowl of muesli...
Guess I'll try again this week, but my heart's not in it Confused

Ah, I feel your pain! The smell of cakes baking is heavenly!

Good luck this week, however many (or few!) hours you fast.

Love that feeling littlepearl of favourite dresses beginning to feel less tight... such great motivation

And like you I really need to get a grip and am thinking of doing Fast800 with longer fasts thrown in to maximise weight loss and get things back under control. this is what I'm aiming for....

I'm now onto my fourth 40 hour fast and they just really seem to suit me ... I did two last week (Mon and Fri) and plan to do the same again this week. After I sorted the slightly light dizzy feeling by eating salt throughout the day, I have been feeling great. Clear head, extra energy and just feel rather liberated. Drinking masses of water. Only side effect has been the slightly surprising mild diarrhoea for 3 or 4 hours on the day I break my fast.

And I love that I am meant to eat extra food the next day, so up it to 1200 calories which feels like largesse.... so enjoy planning my "re-entry" day.

Look forward to hearing about others' experiences - we really are all so different!

I get the same somewhat embarrassing side effects loveyouradvice!

I can't understand it because everything I've read suggests it should go the other way but I'm always a bit, loose. I'm careful nowadays not to break a fast unless I'm at home!

I'm at 42 hours now, plan to break my fast at 4.00pm. Not long now.....

I fasted 3 times a week for a few years. I stopped doing it for 6 months but restarted again recently. I eat an evening meal on fast days. I have watched some YouTube clips about fasting for 7-40 days. I'd love to do that, just don't know if I could do it.

NettleMania · 04/10/2021 17:23

How's it going everyone?
I'm doing my usual Monday fast (36 hours) and feeling pretty good!
I'd like to do it twice a week, but find adding in the extra day really challenging. It's nothing to do with hunger, it's psychological.
I am maintaining on my one fast day a week and would really like to lose 7 - 10 pounds to get back to my ideal weight.
I'll persevere Confused
Good luck to all of you.
