I've tried increasing fibre, taking Inulin and even Dulcolax BUT nothing, or nothing worth mentioning. I've been on the Fast 800 for 3 weeks and weight loss has stalled because of not being 'regular'. I don't even really have an 'urge' to go but feeling bloated and swollen again.

Is there anything safe and gentle that I can take to wake things up ?

Apologies if these are obvious, but I've had success with
prune purée,
raisins
apple juice.
More water than water youre drinking now and lots of exercise

Walking/running do it for me.

Beforeiwasrichandfamous · 22/05/2021 19:24

I don't suffer with this but I have found if I am slightly struggling I 'clench' on and off as opposed to straining/pushing.

Try laxido : you can get it on line . It’s like fybogel but it’s the one the Drs give to cancer patients and others who have this issue due to painkillers etc. It’s not too urgent but usually successful.

Strong coffee

Lactoluse

Thanks for suggestions, I’m trying to avoid anything with sugar in.
I walk daily with my dog & drink loads, I’ve always had some difficulty but wonder if the fast 800 is contributing

Fibre swells when you eat it and that’s why it makes you feel full. Sometimes it can also make you constipated. I would try low fibre as well to see if it gets things moving. It’s what DH was advised to do by a consultant. He’s fine with fruit/veg but whole meal bread brings everything to a standstill.

Try chia seeds - buy the whole ones and soak them in whatever milk you drink about half an hour before you eat them. I eat about 2 tablespoons them when I break my fast with greek yoghurt, berries and cacao nibs. My kids think they look like 'frog spawn' but don't be put off by that :)

Senosoft sachets that you mix in water. Can get from boots or supermarket. Active ingredient is macrogol/movicol.

Sugar free mints…lots of them!

Melroses · 02/07/2021 15:13

Try more soluble fibre - oats, pulses (beans, chickpeas, lentils) and fruit (high pectin like citrus and also seedy like strawberries) and veg (peas are very high in fibre and cabbage family is good for your intestinal flora).

Like FakeColinCaterpillar said bran type fibre is not so good. It is like peat-based potting compost; once it dries out it is really difficult to rehydrate and bungs you up and slows passage through the colon, thus taking more water out and slowing passage through the colon......etc.

Agree. You could also try a strong coffee and doing some core exercises?

Kiwi fruit works for me- I try to eat one a day and it really helps

Susiesooz · 04/09/2021 20:52

I know it's a long time since the original post but I'm going to comment on case it helps someone else with the same problem. TAKE AN EPSOM SALT BATH. Look it up, it will help. It helped me when I was constipated.
Also remember that you're eating less so you don't necessarily be as regular as you were. If you're eating healthy foods, your body utilises it more and you naturally have less waste.

I discovered I can't digest fibre, so nothing was right until I pretty much gave up fruit and veg. I'd followed several doctors' advice over the years to 'eat more fibre' - nobody ever suggested the opposite. I got so sick of how painful it was eating 'properly' that I gave up altogether for a few days and just ate chocolate. It was AMAZING. All my life uncomfortable, and better within 3 days, fully recovered within 5. Never gone back. Never had a flatter stomach or more comfortable digestive system.

Worth a try for a few days, maybe, OP.
