Does autophagy still happen on 16:8?

New here and haven’t started yet. I was set on doing keto in the new year but am now considering IF for the autophagy benefits. Question is as above. Most of what I’m reading says it only happens after 20-22 hours of fasting... anyone read anything different?

That’s a good question. I can’t see the value of 16:8 otherwise (apart from that you have probably skipped a meal so fewer cals)

Since there is not yet a way to clinically measure autophagy, there is no lab test .
Autophagy is a very long process and to get there you need to pass several steps and not even a 20 - 22 hours fast will get there, your signalling pathways must sense that there are no nutrients whatsoever anywhere. 48-hour fasting will reduced glucose and IGF-1 levels by 60% and 70%, respectively . So after 2 days, there are still nutrients in your body,
To get to the autophagy stage defined as a recycling process, you definitely need a long - several days long - fast
