Morning nausea with 16:8

I've been doing the 16:8 diet for about 4 years and totally love it. I'm at my target weight and my IBS symptoms have all but disappeared. I usually have my main meal around 6pm then eat breakfast around 10am the following morning, usually at work. However for the last couple of weeks I've had terrible morning sickness/nausea. I'm not pregnant. This nausea is relieved when I eat so I presume it's due to hypoglycaemia. I'm peri menopausal and have an under active thyroid so I think it might be hormonal.
I really don't want to go back to eating breakfast first thing in the morning but the nausea is kind of awful. Has anyone had this? And any suggestions on how to deal with it apart from eating breakfast earlier?

Are you taking mulitivitamins/medication any time before you eat in the morning? If so that will cause nausea on an empty stomach.
If not then are you eating something high protein and substantial enough for dinner? If the only option is to eat something early to keep the nausea at bay then maybe just have something small and high in protein to keep you going until 10am like a slice of smoked salmon or a spoonful of peanut butter. Hopefully that would take the edge off the nausea. Oh and do you have black coffee or tea in the morning? caffeine can cause nausea in some people

Hm. Yeah I do take all my multivitamins in the morning (probiotics, selenium, high strength Vit D) and I swallow these with a shot of kefir. I'll switch these to nighttime to see if that helps.
I have a black decaf tea every morning so no caffeine.
My main meal the previous night always has protein in it but maybe it isn't enough. I'm generally not that hungry at dinner time so I sometimes have a small meal. I'll keep an eye on that too.
Peanut butter-good idea. I'll try that as a last resort. Thanks for the info!

for me it was tea on a empty stomach that mademe feel queazy.
changed to coffee and now I'm fine with not eating anything until lunchtimes.
vitamins I take with my first meal.

@pinkbalconyrailing interesting! I'm just finding it strange as I've not changed anything in 4 years of doing this diet. I think it must be my hormones. I was completely sweating doing a pregnancy test at 46!

I feel rank if I take vitamins on an empty stomach so maybe try having them with your dinner instead. I think I’ve read somewhere not to take vit d just before bed as it can keep you awake. Maybe have that one with breakfast or lunch and the others in the evening if you can.
If you’re peri then that could def be causing it too. I remember my mum felt really unwell a lot of the time on the lead up to menopause

I'm so glad I asked here! I realised I started taking Wellwoman multivitamins a couple of weeks ago so reckon this is the issue. I had completely forgotten that these are new. I didn't take one today until lunch and nausea completely gone! It would have taken me months to work this out, lots of worry and trips to the GP. Thanks 😊

Well woman vitamins made me have awful nausea. I switched to the boots version of the same thing and they are fine.

I too was panicking about pregnancy!

trumpisaflump · 08/11/2020 11:06

@poshme really? I think I'll just bin them.
