Skipping breakfast intermittent fasting

Hi,

I thought I would start a new thread. I have really struggled with overeating when I’ve reintroduced breakfast (though I love it).

I have improved appetite and had weight loss with IF and looking for buddies to encourage and support me. I find it really hard when out of the route one due to illness, Christmas and then generally really liking breakfast for comfort.

Anyone else seen want to join me?

Is anyone still doing the 16:8?

I am! 170 days and counting...

SleepyRoo · 14/02/2020 22:50

Yep. Since Jan 2nd. Lost about 4lb of the stone I'd ideally like to lose. Slow progress, but I do find it easy to stick to.

Radicalbell · 14/02/2020 22:50

Same here, not seen great results so far but realised I do need to be mindful of portions/calories! Still enjoying it though so continuing and hoping for the best. Hope you’re all getting on well.

Great! Barebellied 170 days is great progress.

Sleepyroo if it’s easy you will stick with it which is the main thing. I’ve found I’ve cheated reintroduced milk in coffee in the am and over Christmas / jan had a bad run with eating too much not sticking to it - I felt awful. I did have some weight gain but despite all this did not regain all that I initially lost. I hope that is helpful. I think we have to think about kcal / what we eat Ofcourse.

Radical bell I didn’t find it to ge a quick fix either but it has been the only thing to lead to permanent weight loss for me. What Are you having lunch dinner?

I've been doing it for years. I don't actually need to lose weight but would like to drop a few pounds for aesthetic reasons (bmi fine). I do it mainly to maintain and eat a lot during my 8 hours. Feel really healthy fasting and will do it for life!

BareBelliedSneetch · 15/02/2020 09:33

It definitely is a way of life, and not a quick magical fix for anything. You won’t see results over night.

tallah · 15/02/2020 09:41

Can I ask how many calories you guys consume during your eating period? I'm trying to stick to 1200 but wonder if I had more if it would still be effective. I've lost 3lb in 2 weeks, am so happy with this diet!

Changednamealready · 15/02/2020 20:33

Tallah I think I had been having around 1800- 2000 but quite active. I dii ok not really keep a log exactly.

I haven’t been sticking to it recently so feel like an imposter but getting back on track sort of.

Hope it's ok for me to join you?

I'd love to hear from those of you doing 16:8. How much weight generally do you lose per week please?

Is 5:2 a better option?

I have a few stone to lose. And really would like 2-3lb a week.

Changednamealready · 15/02/2020 21:50

Birdie I had been doing 16:8 and had a lot of success with it. I found it had a great effect on my morning mood and energy levels and stopped me snacking.

I personally found fasting 500 kcal great for weight loss but totally unsustainable as I would lie awake hungry all night and just didn’t have the discipline.

I have heard others loved the 5 /2 diet though, It’s about finding what works for you and personalising it Smile

Changednamealready -Lunches are pretty healthy during the week, usually salads with chickpeas and quinoa (and sometimes houmous and halloumi....which is fatty), or baked potatoes. Weekends though we tend to eat out a lot for lunch, and so naturally bigger portions and more calories! Dinners tend to be homemade curries/pasta/fajitas/stews etc, and my downfall is I always have second helpings! And of course, half a bottle of wine or so at weekends. I’m going to cut out the second helping this week (and avoid eating out at weekend) and see if that helps with weight loss.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 18/02/2020 16:48

I'm still doing it, albeit only Monday - Friday I just can't stick with it over the weekend! Still, someone in work today asked me if I'm dieting as they think I look like I've lost weight Smile

I make sure not to eat after 7pm and I don't break my fast until 11:30am the following day, and even then it's just a coffee with a small bit of semi skimmed milk. I don't have any actual food until lunch at 1:30pm. So I guess I'm doing more like 18.5 : 5.5 Grin

During my fasting time I drink hot water with a slice of lemon. I don't miss breakfast at all, but I do miss the snacking and find that the hardest thing to stick to! However, the comment from my colleague today and feeling it in my clothes is a good motivator.

Changednamealready · 21/02/2020 19:44

Well I’ve been rubbish. I was quite enjoying getting back into breakfasts last few days - not illness just gluttony and dreading my working day having a load of nice milky coffees before work has been great.

I wrecked my knees and this is actually a reason to back on track as I can hardly walk at the moment.

So back to strict skipping breakfast. I read an article yesterday about always having breakfast being The key to long term weight loss. This really doesn’t not apply to me!
