Carbs, or which sugars?

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me? I'm doing the fast800 and am a bit confused about carbs. Do I go by carbs, or 'of which sugars?'
Thank you.

I'm relation to what specifically? Fast800 is about reducing your refined carbs intake. Carbs contain sugars.

73kittycat73 · 18/01/2020 13:20

I don't even know what a refined carb is!
I'm trying to stick to 20g of crabs a day. However, even my sachet of morning porridge has about 19grams! So I don't know if I go by the carbohydrates listed, or do I take my measurement from, 'of which sugars.'
Sorry, I don't know how else to explain it.

20g is very low. Try going for less than 50g, this will also allow you to get more fibre in which is so important. It’s total carbs not just of which sugars

NeedAnExpert · 18/01/2020 13:23

Fast800 doesn’t allow porridge and especially not highly processed sachets!

NeedAnExpert · 18/01/2020 13:24

You go by the carbs.

BuffaloCauliflower · 18/01/2020 13:24

Porridge is also quite carby. I find eggs or natural yogurt a more BSD friendly breakfast and leaves you enough carbs for veg.

BuffaloCauliflower · 18/01/2020 13:25

@NeedAnExpert actually oats are Fats 800 friendly, but yes a sachet with added sugars wouldn’t be the way to do it

shedidwhatnow · 18/01/2020 13:25

I’m astounded by how much carbs are in things. So far today I’ve had a cereal bar and homemade lentil soup with a small slice of bread and I’m over 50g. I’m not low carbing in any way and never have but I honestly don’t know if I could!

NeedAnExpert · 18/01/2020 13:29

Most people on the various BSD/fast800 groups find oats spike blood sugar.

You wouldn’t be able to eat any of that but you would be swapping fast acting carbs for longer lasting good fats and protein.

I had poached eggs, halloumi, spinach and hollandaise for brunch just now. I’ll have something light later and that will be me done for the day. And I won’t feel hungry at all.

Do you have the book OP and have you read it?

73kittycat73 · 18/01/2020 14:10

Thank you all for your helpful replies. I know porridge isn't great but I started out not quite knowing what I was doing! I've never tried low carbing before. I have now bought some high protein yogurts and mixed seeds to top it.
Thanks again for the help.

Yes and yes. I am very new to all this though which is why I asked for help. I'm also veggie so find I have to find my own low carb substitutions. I'm trying cauliflower mash tonight. Grin

I’m pescatarian and find it reasonably easy.

NeedAnExpert · 18/01/2020 14:53

You need to keep an eye on how much protein you’re getting - need 70g a day to avoid metabolic damage.

BuffaloCauliflower · 18/01/2020 16:27

@NeedAnExpert that’s not true either? Where are you making this stuff up from? Confused

NeedAnExpert · 18/01/2020 16:31

I’m a member of several groups. Many members have done the 8 week blood sugar diet and suffered metabolic damage. The latest research shows that this is an issue with low carb, high fat diets without enough protein. I’ll find you some links.

A lot happens between books being published. Wink

Carbs, or which sugars?
LittleDragonGirl · 18/01/2020 17:00

Processed carbs are white bread, pasta, cake, etc and those find in processed foods

If your determined to have porridge, make it from scratch using hand rolled oats.

Sugar is a carb

Healthy carbs are sweet potatoes, cauliflower, blueberries, the naturally occurring kind

Carbs are essential for healthy brain function and muscle repair If you work out. But diets that involve reducing carbs are reducing processed and unhealthy carbs which are empty calories rather then healthy carbs found in nutritional beneficial food like veg.

LittleDragonGirl · 18/01/2020 17:09

Low carb diets only work, with raised fat and protein (not saturated fat though) which includes fats from nuts, seeds, eggs, full milk butter, which are all healthy form of fats, but must include healthy forms of carbs eg sweet potatoes, cauliflower and vegetables and NO sugar (including fruits initially which can be gradually reintroduced)

Low fat diets require carbs and protein to be efficient, which includes carbs fro. Wholemeal bread, wholemeal rice and veg and fruit, but still requires some healthy fats from eggs nuts etc in moderation.

Basically the best diet is to eat healthy including unprocessed meat, unprocessed carbs such as veg and berries, and healthy fats such as eggs, nuts and seeds
