What are your easy, go to Fast 800 meals?

Hi everyone,

I am thinking of giving the Fast 800 a go but one think that I'm worried about is having to do huge amounts of complicated prep or having to buy lots of different ingredients. I have a very busy job and I have found in the past that unless it's very easy and quick I struggle to keep it up.

What are your go to quick meals (particularly for breakfasts and lunches which I really struggle with)? I am vegetarian but happy to hear all ideas as I may be able to adapt.

xx

Breakfast porridge made with water, sprinkle cinnamon on it.
The Co-Op are doing a Vegan range ( I’m not a vegetarian) the beetroot Falaffle and cous cous is amazing and under 300 cals, less if you don’t put the dressing on.
Poached egg on wholemeal toast, no butter.
Half a tin of baked beans, with some onion and Worcestershire sauce on wholemeal toast.

I’m trying to skip breakfast but if I do have anything
Greek yogurt with berries

Poached egg with mushrooms/spinach/avocado/spinach
Omelette

Lunch
Egg or hummus salad, dressing made from a tsp olive oil, 2 tsp lemon juice and a drop of whole grain mustard.
Bits of cheese with cucumber and celery sticks
Soup, cream of cauliflower is low carb or half a tin of something creamy
Cauliflower cheese (cheese melted in a little cream or just grated cheese)

Dinner
Stir fry (I would normally have chicken or prawn)
Chick pea curry, dhal or chilli cin carne with cauliflower or broccoli rice (I use the frozen microwave pouches)
Scrambled/poached egg/omelette with veg or salad

You can buy fast 800 shakes although I’ve never used them.

I don’t eat any bread at all. I’m not vegetarian and I do think this is more difficult to do if you are. The fast 800 book has some recipes and uses rye bread, small portions of pasta etc so would be worth a look. I find if I keep my carbs fairly low I’m never hungry.

Thanks for the ideas! I have the Fast 800 book but not the recipe book - not sure if it's worth getting that or not?

I don’t have the recipe book either. We are a family of five with two very fussy, one quite fussy and getting worse, a typical teenager and me so mealtimes are fraught enough without faffing around with new recipes.
There are some good recipes on a recipe thread in this topic but not sure how many are vegetarian.

I often do tuna Nicoise without potatoes. Or salmon, sea bass or sea bream with sautéed leeks and peas. Potatoes for rest of family. Chickpea and spinach curry with cauliflower rice. Lentil and butternut squash curry with cauliflower rice. Duck breast with beetroot salad. I used to make a chicken, leek and carrot barley hot pot dish as well, although haven’t for a while. Sometimes I just have a normal meal but just a very small portion of any carbs. All depends whether I have eaten anything else that day.

Have you seen our BSD/fast800 menu thread? Some ideas on there might help you.

I love chicken wrapped in Parma ham and greens. Or mushrooms sautéd in garlic and oil and then with cream cheese (or cream) added and some Parmesan, again served with greens to make a kind of creamy garlicky mushroom sauce. It's calorie dense but the fat makes it very satisfying.

I also did a small salmon fillet (I buy frozen ones as they are cheaper and smaller) wrapped in a single sheet of filo (it's about 60 cals per sheet so not too terrible), make lots of layers to get extra crispiness. Sprinkle the layers with salt (I have a nice lemon and thyme salt for fish that I got from the posh food bit of tkmaxx) and brush with butter or milk and bake in the oven, serve with greens.

I would tend to do this on a day where i eat very light all day (eg at work) and have this to look forward to in the evening!
