There. I have said it.
I have just checked my bmi, i knew i was putting on a lot of weight but this is a new low. Im not happy with how i look, i gave up smoking 2 years ago which is wonderful but now i feel unfit and unhealthy which is not what i wanted.

I have my first holiday abroard in 18 years coming up next year and i dont want to he an unhealthy lump whilst by the pool or exploring.
I did the 5:2 diet but didnt have much success and am thinking about doing a 16:8 intermittent diet, i am an emotional eater who also eats when bored and work shifts although food is readily available.

Any tips, dh helpfully tells me to 'just stop eating'.
I want to have a certain amount of control which the 16:8 appeals as well as not having to constantly think about food

I started the fasting 16:8 diet properly in August immediately after the summer holidays and I can say its the best thing I ever did. It is slow weight loss but I feel great. I have a black coffee first thing then breakfast which is greek yoghurt with blueberries at about 11:30 then I will have my last meal at 7:30.
I don't have to worry about what I eat I eat chocolate sometimes drink too much wine but I have lost about 1/2 a stone.
The main thing I find is that my appetite has reset I can stop eating when I'm full I don't graze a lot and I have reset my taste buds don't eat half as much sugar.
I will definitely recommend, A book I found helpful to start off with was delay don't deny by Gin Stephens. #
Try it you wont regret. its not crashing fast weight loss and initially it might seem not much is happening but hang in there . Good luck

This video is excellent as a starting point. Dr Ekberg's channel explains lot's about insulin resistance and why traditonal diets don't work long term. Also check out DR Jason Fung's channel. I found it easier when I started to skip breakfast as once I ate it triggered hunger. After a few days I no longer felt hungry at breakfast time. Hunger comes but then goes it doesn't get worse. I used to love breakfast but now I breakfast at lunch time except occasionaly at the weekend. I am now at goal weight but still skip breakfast and do a longer fast every now and then for the health benefits. I didn't go low carb as it wasn't for me.

My friend skips lunch and low carbs and this works for her. My best tip is to mix up fasting a bit. When you get used to fasting do a shorter fasting window but also have days when you eat well. Mixing it up often got me over a plateau. Also no snacking as it messes up your insulin resistance.

I've been doing largely 16:8 since April/May and have lost nearly 2.5 stone. It feels totally sustainable in a way that dieting/calorie restriction doesn't.
I have weekends off most of the time and also have milk in my tea in my fast period so I'm by no means strict about it but it's really transformed me. I have about half a stone left to lose and feel amazing.

Please try the Noom app - you get a two week free trial. I do this along with intermittent fasting and have gone from obese to slim this year. It addresses why you eat how you do and has been totally life changing for me.

I do 16:8 as well and it's brilliant for me. It goes very well with low carbing if that's your thing. I also did a 5 day egg fast which I thought would be challenging but turned out to be ok and that gave me a good kick start. Like you I've just decided enough is enough and I need to face the fact that I need to lose 3st at least. 3 weeks in and I've lost 8lbs which is a good start.
Good luck

Have been doing 16.8 for a few weeks now and it is actually the first time I feel properly on control. I have basically lunch and dinner, have virtually no snacks other than raw veg and it is coming off really well. I drink coffee as well and this seems to stave off hunger.

Get one of Michael Mosley's books and read it properly. I like the Blood Sugar Dirt but the Fast 800 is more recent.

Then do it.
