Fasting / 5:2 diet

Talk about intermittent fasting and 5:2, including what’s worked for others. Mumsnet hasn't checked the qualifications of anyone posting here. You may wish to speak to a medical professional before starting any diet.

Losing weight by Christmas 16:8 worked before.

PS A big challenge for me is finding work overwhelming and being tired at the end of the day and looking forward to food. I need to break this pattern so would be interested to hear how others cope.

Wow Triceratops 6lbs is a fantastic loss, have you got a set goal or are you just seeing what happens?

Weighed myself today, so I have my start weight, it wasn't good 13st 2lbs the heaviest I've been in an awful long time. I use to do a lot of running but I've had to stop, so that hasn't helped!!!

Currently drinking my black coffee and won't be eating anything until 12!!

Good luck everyone......not long till Xmas Grin

@HereIGoAgainAndAgain I'm going to be super strict for the whole month of October & see what happens. My weight has been slowly & steadily increasing over the past few years, my fondness for wine doesn't help!! I had my first official weekly weigh in this morning and am pleased to say a loss of 5.75lbs. The 0.75lbs is obviously very important!! Grin

Coffee until 12 today, as soon as the clock turned I was there with my pitta with hummus awaiting.

If nothing else, food tastes better once faster. I find it easier to do this after having a period of just eating loads and it’s refreshing to just not be thinking about food all the time.

Also to add the scales lie. Tom last week and really overate - it said I had regained all that I’d lost over the past few months. Today back down again, some weight gain yes but I haven’t regained everything, which had felt so disheartening at the time. I think I had massive fluid retention my clothes were tighter too!

I was doing 16:8 for a while a few weeks ago and it worked a treat. For some reason though I fell well and truly off the wagon and put on everything I'd lost and more.

Going to try this again tomorrow as I'm back in a routine today but had breakfast as I was starving!

StormcloakNord · 07/10/2019 12:48

As a side note, does anyone know of any good fasting apps or anything that could help me keep a track?

I currently use LoseIt! to track calories but it would be quick nice to have a fasting/calorie tracking hybrid!

I find low carb helps me with the hunger, when I’m eating low carb then the hunger pangs stay away.

How are we doing with the pre-Xmas weight loss, everyone?

I'm down two pounds since this thread started which normally I would think was a disappointing result over a month, but I exercise 7 days/week now including weight training and I've grown some visible muscles. So I am not too worried about the scales for the time being. I definitely look thinner and am wearing smaller clothes.

DownUdderer · 14/10/2019 09:52

I’m sticking to 16:8. It feels normal now. I’m happy with my progress. I’d like to up my fitness.

Changednamealready · 16/10/2019 10:31

How are we all doing?

I had key breakfast creep back in and been feeling very sluggish and craving (and eating) carbs. I’m not sure if it’s because the weathers changed and everyone in the house is Ill.

I may try low carb as my appetite is through at the moment and unsure why - excuses listed above. I was feeling so energetic on my previous plan of 2-3 meals 16:8 but fell off with a thump and feel sluggish.

Ah well marathon, not a sprint and all that. How are you all doing?

Hey everybody. Still exercising, every day without fail. Am getting some quite nice muscles in my arms and legs. Losing weight very, very slowly because of muscle gain and associated water retention.

I have a lot of work ahead of me re cardiovascular fitness but we can worry about that later. I'm building up strength and flexibility first.

Changednamealready · 16/10/2019 22:27

Great work Meirion!

I find carbs less filling and they lead to hunger sooner compared with proteins and cheese or avocados. I also love eggs for feeling full and they’re not too high in calories.

I’m loosing but very slowly after a great few losses in my first two weeks. But I’m glad that I’m losing at all.

Good luck everyone.
