I'm on day 3 and so far so good, it'd be nice to hear if anyone else is doing it too, whether early days or long term

Hi,I do a mixture of fasting days.

This week it has been 20:4 or 21:3.
I have been opening my window with some nuts and a chunk of cheddar and then having a meal an hour or two later. For some reason I have found it easy.

On the odd day that I struggle I will eat two meals a day but always fast for a minimum of 18 hours at least.

SarahBeeney · 30/08/2019 00:18

I recommend Delay don't Deny by Gin Stephens by the way. She also has a Podcast

Toitoitoi · 30/08/2019 10:57

Yes for 3 weeks now. I am finding it surprisingly easy. I have cut my carbs as well.

Gertie75 · 30/08/2019 23:26

SarahBeeney that book looks great thanks, there's also a Facebook group about it so I've joined it for extra motivation, people are getting great results.

Toitoitoi it's good to hear you're still finding it easy 3 weeks in and the initial excitement hasn't worn off, have you had much weight loss?

I'm hoping to lose 3 stone, I've done the Cambridge Diet in the past successfully but this seems easier, it's nice having a proper, good sized meal to look forward to.

Are you both doing it for weight loss or seeing it as a lifestyle choice from now on?
On some groups I've read about people who've eaten this way for years, their weight is stable and it's become a way of life for them.

I've been doing Fasting for quite a while. I see it as a lifestyle choice however I am wanting to lose weight also so that is my main motivation.
Also the science surrounding Autophagy is really interesting.
Dr Jason Fung is an expert on it and has loads of stuff on You Tube.

Today I fasted for 23 hours and ate in a one hour window (quite long for me). I eat what I want and have no interest in eating low carb. If I'm only eating once or twice a day I want to eat what I want!

Toitoitoi · 01/09/2019 13:57

I have lost 13lbs so far give or take as I had a day where ate a couple of times.

I am also keeping my carbs lowish as this helps with the autophagy and weightloss. I also find that if you lower your carbs you stop feeling so hungry the rest of the day. I eat between 6pm -7pm. I did do a 3 day fast the other week to help with the autophagy and resetting my immune system etc

Toitoitoi · 01/09/2019 14:00

I am trying to lose weight about a stone to go but I am mainly doing it for the many health benefits which obviously include removing all the belly fat first!

Gertie75 · 01/09/2019 23:53

I'm a bit of a carb addict and don't think I could restrict them to below 50g, some days I don't have many but I enjoy pasta dishes and spuds on my roast dinners.

I'm hoping to get decent losses doing OMAD and not counting carbs.

OP posts:
SarahBeeney · 02/09/2019 00:23

I don't count carbs. If I'm going to eat once a day I eat what I want. Basically a 3 course meal over 1/2/3 hours.

blardyfeck · 02/09/2019 08:11

I started yesterday - one meal at 12.30. My plan is to do OMAD or 21:3.
I find if I restrict what I eat, I crave it & fail after a few days.
I will try to lower my carb intake but I will allow myself low carb bread & biscuits.
Ideally I'd like to lose a stone and a half but 2 stone is the goal.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 04/09/2019 13:52

I also mix up days - so might do 16:8, 18:6 or OMAD, depending on how I feel. I really enjoy it and find it easy.

The only thing I've noticed is that after having lost a stone, I've stalled now for a few weeks. I don't mind too much as I have a year to lose another half-stone (and it is more about health benefits anyway) but it is a little frustrating to not see any movement even with daily fasting. I expect it will come off eventually though.

I try to keep carbs low but I don't beat myself up if I fancy chocolate or potatoes or a sandwich. I agree that if I'm only eating once a day I'll eat whatever I damn well please in that window Grin

Cozytoesandtoast00 · 09/09/2019 19:51

I also recommend Delay don't Deny.
I've been fasting for years but have not been able to stick to it for long.
This new method is amazing. The most important thing is to clean fast. This makes a massive difference in that I don't feel hungry! I normally have one meal a day and a snack about 2 hours before. I eat what I like and the weight is coming off nicely 😊

Lalalalasee · 10/09/2019 14:37

What is OMAD? Are you supposed to fast every day? And does 20:4 Have you fasting every day to? I have been doing about a 19:5 by accident for the last week and am finding it's getting easier each day. I have done the 52 in the past so I think I was trying to do it again but I seemed to have just eaten about 1300-800 cal per day in a small window instead

Lalalalasee · 10/09/2019 14:58

I've answered my question by looking at the reviews for Delay don't Deny!

LimeJellyHead · 12/09/2019 12:07

I have been doing a mixture of different fasting regimes for 2 months and love it. I mostly do OMAD in the week then eat normally at the weekend and then I throw in a 3 or 4 day water fast occasionally as well. I believe in mixing things up a bit, so your body doesn't get too used to one particular eating pattern.

spanglyundies · 10/12/2019 21:59

I found this post on 10th September and now 3 months along the line I have been doing 20:4 fasting or OMAD since. I'm a stone lighter. Just thought I would share and say thank you for the idea!

SarahBeeney · 09/01/2020 23:58

@spanglyundies how did you get on over Xmas? I ate loads but back on track now.

How is everyone else getting on?

spanglyundies · 10/01/2020 07:06

I have now lost 2 stone in total. I went into maintenance over xmas so went up to 16:8 (some days like xmas day it was more like 14:10) but I didn't put any weight back on.

I'm back on it now still have another stone to lose but know this one will be a slower slog

SarahBeeney · 10/01/2020 07:17

Fantastic,well done.

I have found that sometimes the scales dont go down that much but that my shape is changing loads,I'm not sure where it goes though.

I should measure myself but I never get around to it.

spanglyundies · 10/01/2020 20:38

I hadn't heard of OMAD before I saw this post but I saw your comment about delay don't deny and looked into it, read the book, had a look at some posts on the Facebook group and have been doing it every since so huge thanks for sharing the name of the book!!! It's all in the clean fast Smile

SarahBeeney · 10/01/2020 23:34

It makes so much sense doesn't it?
I'm aiming for 20:4 at the moment, with a snack and then a meal a bit later. I'm busy at work next week so will have to tweak it a bit I think. I love the flexibility.

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 11/01/2020 19:37

Can anyone who's doing this say if they've been counting the calories of their one meal a day? The idea appeals to me - I never eat breakfast anyway and I can easily distract myself during the day so I don't think about lunch. But I assume you still have to not consume 3000 calories during your eating window! I feel like I could easily eat that much in one meal if I wasn't careful, as I have some issues with binging.

So those of you who have lost weight with OMAD, did you monitor what you ate?

SarahBeeney · 12/01/2020 18:59

I don't monitor what I eat. If I'm going to fast then I'm going to eat what I like.
I guess I eat a 3 course meal in the eating window. I always have a pudding or chocolate to finish off.

duckii · 13/01/2020 20:12

Interested in OMAD. I've done a couple days of this already without realising and I'm sure I can cope but I have been trying to reduce carbs when I have that one meal. It's really hard especially with a one year old who doesn't sleep!
For those who have done OMAD longer, what do you eat in that one meal? Do you restrict eating to an hour? And how many calories?
If you are not counting carbs and eating what you want, how much have you lost? I'm scared I'll just binge eat in that one meal/hour! Smile

spanglyundies · 17/01/2020 21:39

I tend to eat a bit more than one meal as I haven't been able to stop the snacking habit. I reckon I eat about 1200-1500 in a 4-5 hour window.
