Fasting / 5:2 diet

Talk about intermittent fasting and 5:2, including what’s worked for others. Mumsnet hasn't checked the qualifications of anyone posting here. You may wish to speak to a medical professional before starting any diet.

We’re thinking about merging this section, what do you think?

Hi all,
We’re doing some work on making the Talk boards more useful and user-friendly for both regular and new users. After looking at some stats for the site, we think we could boost activity on the whole by merging some of the lesser used sections.

We’re proposing to fold the topics in this section into the Weight loss chat area.

This should increase the number of topics in the section - and hopefully lead to more posts and responses to members.

NO

Intermittent fasting is different to WW, low carb etc
and is not suitable for everyone

We are up to main thread #85 for 5:2
Let us keep our seperate area

Shouldbedoing · 22/06/2019 19:16

I agree with BigChoc (previous 5:2 er who needs to start it again !)

IPokeBadgers · 22/06/2019 19:22

Nope. IF is a totally different type of diet/way of life than other commercially designed diet plans and slimming clubs....Def think it should be kept separate.

Trenzalor · 25/06/2019 16:49

No thanks. This is a lot different and we like it that way.

Please don't merge it!

Laniakea · 04/07/2019 15:35

Nope fasting is a completely different WOE to the weight loss threads - and as much/more about health than dieting. If you merge us we’ll be overwhelmed with posters telling us we’re all developing eating disorders, about to collapse/die, going to “starvation mode”, should be having at least three meals plus snacks for “health”, and since the “average” woman needs “2000 calories a day” we should never go below 1800 .... it will become a bunfight .., please spare us!

EssentialHummus · 04/07/2019 15:37

No!

Fortythreeandfatasfuck · 08/07/2019 10:26

No.... keep it separate PLEASE Smile

Hockneypool · 08/07/2019 10:33

No keep it separate. intermittent fasting and 5:2 is different to WW and the other commercial dieting programmes.

onko · 10/07/2019 16:51

No, I have browsed the other sections (and the internet) and only fasting/5:2 is relevant - I’m sure many others will agree. Weight loss is peppered with contradictory advice. Here the advice and support is hugely consistent which is really beneficial.

Snowglobes · 14/07/2019 16:38

No! Please keep BSD/5:2/fast800 separate to all other weight loss threads. I’ve no desire to read anything about other ‘diets’. If it’s all mixed together I certainly won’t bother with mumsnet.

MrsTerryPratchett · 14/07/2019 16:43

Obviously MNHQ should respect the needs and wants of the users of this area. But the low carb peeps aren't 'dieting' either. It's also about health and a different way of eating. And we get the same crap about excluding food and eating disorders and 'how can you...'

Also LCHF people often combine with 16:8 and some people combine with 5:2.

bridgetreilly · 14/07/2019 22:23

For what it's worth, I always find it weird that the BSD threads are in this section rather than low carb, because BSD is not about fasting or 5:2 or 16:8 or whatever. I know it's all the Michael Mosley things, but still.

BloomedAgain · 15/07/2019 14:55

Please keep separate. Much simpler to navigate!

BigChocFrenzy · 20/07/2019 12:25

BSD is about fasting and Mosely deliberately called his slightly updated version of BSD the FAST800 diet.

  • 800 daily calories, no junk, no booze uses the same technique of cell regeneration through fasting as IF (intermittent fasting)
but adds daily fasting and low carb to turbo-charge it and weight loss.

Low carb alone, without the VLCD, does not activate this pathway to cell regeneration
