Coffee, portions, blood sugar diet

I've just started the bsd and am struggling a bit with portion size. I started at a hefty 15 stone 13lbs 4 days ago and am this morning 15 stone 7lbs so obviously doing something right.

When does the hunger pass as I am still finding myself thinking about food constantly although I think the sugar craving is passing.

Do you all weigh out your portions? I'm using mfp to log but for example last night I had some of the Bolognese my family were eating with half an avocado and green leaves and I really struggled to know what the content of the bolognese was. I just searched for bolognese and put a serving down but there were wildly different entries to choose from.

Also on bsd can I have coffee freely if I don't have milk? I've worked out if I have it milky I can't eat anything and stay under 800 cals!! Or does coffee inhibit weight loss so only in moderation?

Hello how.
I'm not going to claim to be an expert on the book but I gave done a fair bit of low carb, intermittent fasting with success. I think black coffee is fine as long as caffeine doesn't trigger sugar cravings for you. If it does, try decaffeinated. Also focus initially on eating the correct foods - you're losing weight after all. When you're no longer craving sugar and processed carbs and when maybe weight loss has stalled, then look at portion sizes.
Good luck

How not sure if we've discussed this in the main thread, but if I'm prepping a big meal I will weigh the ingredients for the whole dish and make a new entry on my calorie tracker, eg Bolognese 01/01/19, then select eg. 1/4 or 1/6 of the whole dish when I eat it. This is particularly helpful if you freeze portions too.

One other tip is to weigh your cooking dish (eg for a stew/curry) and then you know the total calories for the whole weight, then you can portion off your 100g or 150g or whatever, and calculate it as a fraction of the whole. It will be an average, but it should be ok enough for our purposes. This works better for me because the dc don't eat a whole portion and Dh has more, so I can be precise with mine, and again, can freeze a portion (I write on the Tupperware lid with a sharpie and cross it out when it's gone)
