5:2 with ME/CFS

I’ve stumbled across this area whilst seeing the ongoing 5:2 thread in the active list Smile

I have ME/CFS which saps the life out of me . I would love to lose some weight but find exercising leaves me feeling awful , often for days at a time .

I’d like to try 5:2 - would it be appropriate in my situation ?

I’d also need some very quick , easy to make meals (see sapped energy !) if anyone has any ideas?

I often stock up on ready meals for days I’m too ill to cook - one of these with veg would probably equate to 500cals.

Maybe eggs on toast ?

Any advice welcome Smile Flowers

I had PVF after a viral illness many years ago so first of all Flowers for you. It was awful and I was very grateful to recover after many months of feeling terrible.

Weight loss and daily walking definitely helped me recover but it took some time. I did WW at the time but BSD (Blood Sugar Diet) could be excellent for it. You can do a strict 8 week version or do it 5:2 style. Lots of us are getting great results and feeling really well on it. Come join us on the BSD threads - we are a very supportive bunch.

Stick to simple meals like scrambled egg/ omelette with steamed veg. I use creme fraiche and veggie parmesan to make broccoli and cauliflower cheese. I eat Quorn too and things liked baked mushrooms. Veggie curries are great too with cauli rice and you can buy microwave packs from the freezer section. Full fat bio yoghurt is great too and nuts, cheese and hummus with veg.

Have a go, 2 slimfasts would be 400 Cals and would do you for 2 meals with no effort. But I have ME/fibro as well and in my experience you feel like absolute shit on that amount, as in, literally can't move (even more than usual). If you have a job or kids to look after, I honestly wouldn't even try it, but if you're ok dying on the sofa all day and have someone to look after you and get you water, help you to bed etc, then give it a go but be prepared that it might not be for you.
