BSD Fast 800

I'm currently pregnant and have put on a lot more weight than I'd like. Baby due September and I'm already starting to plan getting the weight off and back to my normal weight. I've heard great things about BSD. After looking into it a bit further I'm going to try the Fast 800 for 8 weeks.

I'm just wondering how I should best prepare? Any tips/advice? Is it worth getting the book and the recipe book?

My biggest tip for BSD is do it gradually, not cold turkey!
Are you planning to breastfeed?

Not planning to breast feed so assume I don't need to take extra precautions that way. Is it really that tough? Im quite all or nothing when it comes to dieting so was hoping going straight in 100% would be manageable!

I went in straight and personally found it easier. I struggled for 2 or 3 days with headaches though, but as soon as I was used to it felt great and never really get hungry even. Highly recommended, though do be realistic about what you can do with a young baby and be kind to yourself!

I bought the 8 week bsd book for about £4 on eBay. It has plenty of recipes in it to get you started - I've not needed the recipe book yet.

I'm 3 weeks in and 1 stone down. Highly recommend the bsd thread in this section - lots of knowledgeable folks!

BSD only really works if you do it ‘properly’- if you don’t then you’re not technically doing BSD (if that makes sense)- although you don’t have to do 800 calories every day. You can do a 5/2 version and do 2 fasting days a week and follow the Mediterranean diet methods for the rest of the week?

The key is to avoid ‘the big 5’ - pasta, rice, potatoes, grains and sugar (fructose) and eat more fat- even on non fasting days if you do 5:2, (which is the big difference between BSD 5:2 and other 5:2 plans)

We’re just about the start a new thread so it’s a perfect time to come and join us!

Blood Sugar Diet thread 11 www.mumsnet.com/Talk/fasting_diet/3267071-blood-sugar-diet-thread-11

(Have just seen that you’re currently still pregnant though, not sure if it’s recommended while pregnant)

After you've had your baby give it a whirl. It gets rapid weight loss. I've had ups and downs with it but the trend is very much down and if I have a bad weekend I tend to maintain or just gain a couple of lbs. Bear has mentioned the BSD diet threads - they are so supportive. It is definitely easier when you are at home a lot so having a new born would help on that front but you do need to plan your meals carefully. It would be worth prepping some 3-400 cal meals in advance and freezing them. If you have plenty of salad and veg in plus pre-prepared meals it would be easier. But with a new baby even cutting out the big 5 would be enough to get you started.
