How do I know if I should do BSD or 5:2 diet?

Is the BSD really only if you are diabetic/ prediabetic? I am neither of these but v overweight with 3 stones to loose.

I have read the BSD book but not sure if I should do that or 5:2.

Advice appreciated.

I did the 5:2 for a couple of years but was only maintaining because I was probably eating too much on non fast days. If I had a week off (holidays, Christmas etc) I added a couple of pounds and not lose it. Been doing bsd for 9 weeks and have lost 10 pounds so far, which is one of the lower amounts, others have lost much more. I've cut out alcohol (bar about 3 units in that time) and been stricter with my carbs than calories. I'm not diabetic or pre diabetic but it is in my family. I need to lose just over 1 and 1/2 stone altogether. This is a really good diet to stick to with good low carb alternatives, easy and varied. People seem to like the structure of it.

Compare and contrast the threads on bsd and 5:2. Plenty find 5:2 works very well for them.

I am wondering if I need the short, sharp shock of the bsd, if I can call it that, to get my system going.

That's exactly why I tried it. Surprised myself by a) actually losing weight. I'd almost given up hope. b) finding it perfectly possible to continue, for as long as.

You could try bsd and see how it goes. No one will mind if you change to 5.2! Or the other way about. See what suits you.
