Juice master

Hi, I put on loads of weight after my child was born 7 stone. I have found it so difficult to stop eating all the junk- sugar. I am addicted to sugar there is no donut in that. I started the juice master "diet" today. So far not hungry, headache on its way I believe. So I'm going to stick this diet plan to the end, it's got to be healthier this way then eating all the junk like I did before. Has anyone done it? Or heard anything positive about the diet, I need motivation to get me through these tough days.

Its a gimmick and has nothing to do with 5:2 thankfully.

MissFitt68 · 22/09/2015 16:39

Jason vale?

Don't see how it's a gimmick, juicing has been around for years.

Ta1kinPeace · 22/09/2015 16:41

but its nothing to do with fasting so why did the OP post it on this board?

MissFitt68 · 22/09/2015 16:43

Yes, juicing is known as fasting as well.... Juice fasts

Not eating food

Ta1kinPeace · 22/09/2015 16:45

But most of the juices are full of sugar and calories, so not a fast.

And how do they fit into a normal diet over many years in the way that 5:2 does?

BigChocFrenzy · 22/09/2015 21:51

With 7 stone to lose, you need a longterm program that is sustainable and healthy

Juicing is ok for the 2 fast days on 5:2
If you are combining juicing with 5:2, I suggest you join the main 52Thread56 for support

However, don't do juicing on its own as a prolonged fasting diet.
Juice does does not contain the protein and fats you need to maintain health & retain lean mass.

BigChocFrenzy · 22/09/2015 21:54

Btw, fasting is rather more than just not eating: e.g. an ice cream soda diet is not a fasting diet.

MissFitt68 · 23/09/2015 07:42

Juices which are veg based ( most of the vale ones) aren't 'full of sugar'
Spinach/celery/kale/lemon/ginger/cucumber

How many calories do you have on a fast day? Probably similiar to a day's worth of juices!

And how do they fit in to a normal diet like the 5:2 does..... Er, you switch your juicer on? Much like you do an oven, and prepare it that way, same as any food

Ta1kinPeace · 23/09/2015 07:44

Yes but I have them in the form of a proper family meal at the end of the day
and thus teach my children proper healthy eating habits.

Shakshouka or Frittata or Veg stir fry are real food and come in at 400 calories a portion leaving me free to drink tea all day

that is why 5:2 works, year in year out.

MissFitt68 · 23/09/2015 07:52

Well I might have 4-5 juices spread out over the day.... And I work a physical job!

Also, when I was marathon training a tip from seasoned marathoners was to use beetroot. Got me through a marathon still smiling!

Juices are 'real' food. My children love them too, in fact my daughter has one at uni.

BigChocFrenzy · 23/09/2015 14:33

Veg juices are ok on 2 fast days per week, if that is your preference - some folk even fast those days on zero cals, although I don't recommend this.

Juices also ok as an extra drink on non-fast days.
I expect veg juice was not your only source of calories for the entire day, for your marathon.

Juices are NOT healthy as the SOLE source of calories on a PROLONGED fast i.e. at most 3 days per week, without medical supervision

That is what worries us, because some desperate people - who don't understand the science - have fasted alone for several consecutive days and suffered very serious health problems.
We hope the OP is not doing that.

There has been a lot of scientific research into prolonged fasting, mainly for health benefits and veg juice is used on these.
BUT the patients receive a detailed medical exam before they are cleared to start and then they are examined daily during the fast, to check if they are fit to continue.

I am going the 5.2 and juicing on fasting days, I have only been doing it a short time a week now and lost a lot of water weight 14 lb. my ex husband is a Medical Doctor ( not a GP) but he has said that long term it's not healthy but it's healthier then my diet before so I plan to stay on it until my weight is back to my normal.

Thanks for reassuring us, greenfaith and congrats on your weight loss.
Smile
5:2 does preserve lean mass well, so don't worry about losing muscle.
Several folk have safely lost many stone on 5:2, quite quickly.

If you later manage fast days eating the solid veg, without juicing, plus some protein, you would feel fuller and have a more balanced diet.
However, whatever works for you on FDs to lose weight.

Some of us have been doing 5:2 for a few years now, first losing and now maintaining. We find it very healthy longterm.

As I posted, do join us on the main thread if you want support.
People there are successfully combining all sorts of systems - WW, low carb, vegan, mediteranean ... with 5:2

Greenfaith · 23/09/2015 20:49

Thank you, I will do.
